Bow Equipment

I just got a bow from a friend of mine. It's a Bear Whitetail II. I know, old right. It's in great shape though. Kind of naked at the moment, but I'm workin on that. I am actually trying to find out some information about sights though. I have a 5 drop pin sight with what seems like a basic mount for most bows. I am looking for some kind of extension that would push the sight out further away from my bow. I have seen sights with a slide mount but have not found any kind of mount like this that you could put a standard sight on. I started this thread just to see what other people are putting on their bows and what other equipment people are using.

I have a cobra fiber optic, on my Whitetail II. I wouldnt want to push the sight out any further than I have to though.

From what I have seen longer sights mean more accuracy. A friend of mine has an extended sight on his bow and twice he has split an arrow with another arrow. I seen it happen one of the times and seen the results of the first time it happend. Spot Hogg has a nice setup called Hogg-It. It has some kind of slide mount. It makes sense the further apart your peep sight and sight are from eachother the more accurate it would be. I am just wondering why no one has built some kind of universal slide mount.

I just got my bow set up Saturday and took it over to my buddy's to shoot a couple. Even though the bow is probably around 15 years old, my buddy about crapped himself when he heard how quiet it was. It has not string stopper, or any kind of silencing equipment on it yet and it's 10 times quieter than his. Shot a nice tight pattern even though it's not totally sighted in yet. We'll see next weekend.

I am wondering what type of broadhead people have.
I shoot a G5 Montec 100grain. It is made from one piece of steel and does a great job with entrance and exit. My hunting buddy uses the Hypershock 125grain. It is an expandable, but expands after it passes under the hide on entrance. Man it does damage, and force is saved for internal damage.

What do you all use?

I currenty use Cabellas Lazer 100 grain broadhead. They are hard to tune though. Thinking about trying expandables, My buddy and brother use Spitfires with good results.

I shoot Razorback 100 grainers. I have heard good things about Rage expandables, I just prefer to shoot a fixed blade.

I think Rage expandable's are popular just because they are the "new" thing. I was in Gander mountain and people were buying them like they were going out of style. They open uniquely, so that may be a benefit, but those Hypershock's have such a wide cutting diameter! You should check em out. I still may stay with my Montec's, just because they are not expandable.

Well, I like the idea that they expand BEFORE entering the animal, unlike most expandables that expand while entering.

But mechanical broadheads are just that-mechanical. And, anything that is mechanical can have a failure, so thats why I shoot fixed blades.

I know what you mean about fixed broadheads, LNG RNG. I see some positives-
#1 simplistic design (most of the time)
#2 straight forward
#3 force goes into impact vs. opening a blade

Those hypershocks open AFTER penetrating past the hide, which saves force for the internal.
