.22 mag and coyotes

I realize this is very sumular to the other thread on shot placement. However this is a little different point of view. Would you consider .22 mag good for coyote, fox. Also would a revolver be suitable? Would full metal jackat be a good Idea?

A FMJ is never the best idea for stopping game of any kind.I personally believe the rimfires will work but only if you are an excelent shot and use very limited range so the bullet still has enough energy to make a kill.If I really wanted to do a number on them,I would use a centerfire or shotgun.The biggest downfall with rimfires is they are almost bound to run and the rf,s dont leave much of a blood trail.You can loose them within 50yds of where they were shot even with an excelent shot.But if that is all you have,use it and go hunting for a good time.It isnt like a deer and wasting game unless you sell pelts like I do.You are still eradicating a varmint and saving game animals. sam.

dont shoot an animal and let them suffer. a 22rimfire is unsuitable!

I believe a .22 magnum would be sufficient so long as you're not taking really long shots.

In Australia, 22mag is considerd a fox gun. Whilst 22lr is a rabbit gun. As noted in other posts, i have never seen a coyote but am told they are bigger than a fox, so centrfire is probably advisable.

FWIW, any animal that gets close enough will go down with my browning a5 pushing AAA buck.

I'm not getting in this one except to say usually if a .22lr wont do it a .22mag isnt going to do much better.The jacketed bullets and low power limit their effectiveness. sam.

For the considerations already posted; the mag. has enough energy to accomplish.

is always the consideration.

A .223 would be vastly superior to a .22 which is very likely to leave you with a wounded animal moving away to die. Very few people (no matter what they say or write) ever master a revolver to the level of accuracy for hunting at even 50 yards.
