To answer your question:

Yes and Yes

My rifle is the Remington BDL Mountain rifle chambered in 280 / 7mm express. Its the same round, just different names.

I usually shoot 150 grain Remington rounds in my 280 with very good results on deer.

A word of caution. remington likes to chamber rounds in its light weight mountain rifle. This causes the rifle to kick a little harder. In a side by side comparison - a weatherby vangaurd in 270 kicks a lot less then a remington BDL mountain rifle in 280.

My best groups have been 3/4 - 1 inch at 100 yards. Am I happy with the 280, I sure am. The only reason why the 270 is more popular is because it got a 30 head start on the 280.

Even most gun magazines say the 280 is a better choice then the 270 for elk and moose. The 7mm bullet will give you more options when reloading then the 270 will.

I like to tell people the 280 is half way between the 270 and the 30-06. The 280 is supposed to be a little longer then the 270. This is to prevent accidental chambering of a 280 in a 270 rifle. Even though a recent issue of guns and ammo magazine got the pictures and labels switched around between the 270 and 280.
