Browning Safari 300 Win Mag with Boss

I would like your opinion on buying a Browning Safari 300 Win Mag with Boss for Hunting Moose & possibly deer...or should I buy it's 30-06 for it's wider range of ammunition load and game.. A quick follow-up shot is important in our thick forested area.

If you are gonna hunt Moose, go with the .300 WinMag. works on Deer, Caribou, and Bears too !
I started with 06 here in Alaska, went to .300 when it took Multiple shots from 06 on Big Moose to put em right Down. I havent regretted it. If you reload, you have Many Bullets and bullet weights to choose from 110 grain to 220 grain....

History shows this is the best round for all American game hunting. The .300 is a good round but is strong in the recoil and muzzle blast department, costs more to shoot that the .30-06,
is not versatile to wide range of hunting, and due to recoil you will not practice as much therefore not becoming as effective in the field. There is way too much "magnum myth" in America.

That is Not True at all... It takes bullet energy to kill cleanly a thick skinned animal, and 30/06 is minimal even at 50 yard shots...I know this from Experience.
Recoil is only felt on a shooting range, YOU NEVER FEEL it when shooting an Animal because of Adrenaline.
Recoil Can be dealt with in many ways, but you can't get the bullet energy out of an 06 that you Can out of a Magnum.
You can't hunt Buffalo in Alaska with a 30/06.. BY REGULATION...Has to be A MAGNUM or you can't hunt.
A faster , Flatter shooting bullet has way more advantage as far as Faster Killing , and hitting where you aim at at longer ranges. Ammo price is irrelevant because I can Buy .300 Win Mag Cheaper than I can 30/06 in some stores because they sell More .300 so they buy bigger lots. If the 30/06 is so great, then why are U.S. Military snipers now using the .300 Win Mag ??? Because it is the Best all around .30 cal on the market!

Hard to argue with what the Moose said. The .300 Win Mag is just a damn good cartridge, period.

Balistics wise the .300win is about the same at 150yds as the .30-06 is at the muzzle.My experience in the field checking many other hunters shots and my own experience the .30-06 carries sufficient fps-ke to kill moose-bear game up to 200yds and the .300win out to 400yds using select 180gr bullets in both.In my hunting world that means I would feel adequately armed with a -06 out to 100yds and a .300win at 200yds.This would give me a good fps-ke margin with both.I would feel I had nothing to spare with the -06 at 200yds or the .300win at 400yds.I would pass the shot with both at max range. sam.

Don't forget about trajectory. A .300 Win Mag shoots considerably flatter. It may be more expensive to shoot, but you'll use less bullets to down an animal! The 06 had it's day, but new generations of calibers and powders are quickly taking over its' legendary status.

Yeah I do have to agree with moose and everybody else who said the 300 it is a better round even for killing deer in a similar location 300 kills them quicker and the extra force behind it doesn't hurt anything. If you can't handle the recoil get a recoil pad and such. Doesn't browning or somebody sell 300 in semi auto I would check that out if you are looking for quick follow up shots. Oops sorry just looked it up I guess it is already is a semi auto.

The Browning safari comes with a 26" barrel so add 100 ft/sec in other words you are throwing a 200 grain led out at 3200 ft/sec. = DEAD anything .
The 30-06 is ok for as samuel says 200 yards. But has the trajectory like the rainbow.

The 300 is my weapon of choice. In fact I would take a 270 over the 30-06 (that should start something.)
You need two things to create energy (stopping power) which the 300 is unmatched by in conventional hunting arms. And those are Velocity & Weight in grains.
A 300 doesn't need a follow up shot with a well placed first shot.
