Well, glad ya ask Dallas. We didn't get drawn in. At the puplic hunting spots they have a draw in the summer to be a blind owner for the year. We never get lucky on that one. Come duck season they go to a daily draw. The blinds that are not claimed + whatever walk in spots they have. The walk in spots are worthy, flooded corn , millett & such. Just a lot of competition. The other way is money. If guys have their own place and can afford fuel to pump water and can buy seed to plant, they are in like kin. I have neither luck or money. Being as I'm in the majority including good honest folk here, that don't bother me. That said, I frequent the Refuge Forum for Duck Hunting. Guys like to brag on their success, I don't blame them for the most part. Most guys are modest. There are a few who are elitist and believe that if a person dosen't have the funds and or resources to have a premium duck killi'n spot they are substandard duck hunters that are not worthy to grace the marsh. As much as I love it, I'm about to give in. I think the boat is first for sale. There are a couple of timber holes at the public walk in that are walking distance and always open. No one ever kills ducks there but I don't think many have tried. Mabe I should be happy hunting there 3 or 4 times a season and be done with it.

I am sorry you didn't get a chance to hunt. Don't give in yet.

Bags are packed AH, You can do about the same here if your the land owner or have permission. Another probelm revolves around the buck. Seems you cant simply get permission any longer without supporting the prospect with some green.

Here in Pa, prime duck hunting locations are tough to find, and for the most part, there are more hunters, than places. Having a boat helps, but even that is no sure thing. I was lucky enough to be invited to hunt on a small stream years ago. The builders are closeing in on it, and we have lost more than half of the area to safety zones. Worse, is finding a place to park, that you don't have to worry what will happen to the truck while you are hunting. The big rivers are good, but again safety zones, other hunters, and boat access play an important role. I have always wanted to hunt Del, or Md. but it is more of a pay to hunt situation there. They have drawing on public land, with residents getting all the draws first then non residents. |
