Question about the C&R and the CMP

Here's a question I wouldn't mind an answer to. Down at the gun shop the other day, one of the habitues said that if you have a C&R license, you can buy firearms like the M-1 Carbine from the Civilian Marksmanship Program without having to go through the business of belonging to a gun club certified by the CMP. Is there any truth to this or was he blowing smoke through his hat?

You don't have to a C&R to buy from the CMP. You do have to have something to show you are versed in the shooting sports (a copy of match results from a match you shot in, military service. A C&R can satisfy that requirement).

You also have to belong to a CMP affiliated club. You can accomplish this online, usually costs 25-30 bucks. The Garand collectors assoc. is a good one, I've heard.

I will post the link to the CMP requirements when I get home, I can't do it from work, CMP is blocked here.

I also highly recommend the CMP. There's a little bit of paperwork, but they have good deals on quality US surplus rifles.

Take your C&R a club membership and a carry permit and you can qualify I would recommend acting fast as the supply they have on the shelves is Anniston is getting low.

The C&R, or DD214, CWP, or LEO certification replaces the target shooting requirement. You still need to be a member of a CMP affiliated club. You can join some of these clubs online.

You MUST be a member of a recognized club or organization EVEN if you have an 01 FFL.

ALSO....when your club membership comes up for renewell...make sure you send a copy of your NEW membership card to the cmp for there records....if you don't...you will make that long trip for nothing. they will NOT sell if you have an out of date membership card on file.
