| Taurus in two days
A local shop had a .45 sale on Sunday and I bought a blued Taurus 1911 with wood and rubber grips for $475 NIB. I've researched my butt off on the Taurus and other 1911's under $1000 and decided to go with the Taurus. I've found about a 2% or so that don't really like it (and actually own one) and the extremely overwhelming majority are happy with the gun. I've heard of a few failures with a trickling of broken parts, but as most have said, they've broken no more than any other 1911 that they own, and the feeding and digesting of ammo is better than most. So, due to IL law, I can't pick up my new shooter until Thursday. My only other .45 that I'll be able to compare it to is my Glock 21SF, and I have fired a buddy's Colt 1991 A1. Anyway, if anyone's got any suggestions on the gun, let me know. My only real complaint on the gun (so far) is appearance, with the white writing on the slide. On the other hand I have a couple Glocks and they're far from pretty.

| Thorough cleaning
I would suggest a thorough cleaning to get rid of the packing/shipping grease then application of a high quality light machine oil for lubrication. Many shooters leave the packing/shipping grease inside their .45 auto thus making a trap for dirt, lint from guncase, etc. that can affect function, increase wear on parts, etc. Otherwise, a Taurus is a good quality product that has stood the test of the marketplace. Like any semi-auto cleanliness inside and out with proper lubrication is really next to Godliness.

Thanks for that suggestion!! As a frequent Mil Surp buyer, I clean everything before it sees a single round, no matter if it's a gun made in 1907 or 2007. As I was holding and inspecting it on Sunday, the first thing I wanted to do was tear it down and start cleaning. I picked up a Glenfield bolt .22 for my nephew's Christmas present and took out my needs on it, instead.. It's now spotless..

I checked last night on Budd's gunshop, which I use for a new gun price guide, and they have them for $520 shipped, but then there'd still be transfer fee. I'm looking forward to it. I've had a hard time finding anything bad on the gun, but there sure seems to be a lot of guys posting that they're very happy with the gun after thousands of rounds.

Paper I'm hopeing the Taurus 1911 is a success, it appears nicely made and you have a lot of custom features that some other 1911's don't have. Time will tell if Taurus has given us an excellent 1911 that most can afford. The store I bought my Mossberg 930 shotgun had sold 4 or 5 of them and all 4 or 5 were returned due to some kind of breakage the guy behind the counter said. Thats not good to say the least. Lets hope any problems have been corrected...A.H |

I'm hoping the same.. ![]() I've heard of some breakage issues with early guns on smaller parts. I've "heard" they fixed it.. I know the gun I bought was recent manufacture, so I've got my finger's crossed..

Those new PT1911 are sweet looking. They are a smooth looking piece. I like the wood grips.

They seem to be a good 1911 for the price. You get lots of extras for a base price. I have not fired one yet. But, I tried the trigger on several and really didn't like it. I suppose any good aftermarket 1911 trigger group would fit it. If that were fixed, I would definitely consider one. Let us know how it shoots!!

Finally got a chance to shoot the Taurus at the range. Because the club I belong to only allows lead ammo (no hardball) I picked up some lead ammo at Dick's and sat down and did some shootin'.. After finding out where it shoots, I had no problem dropping all 8 shots in a 4" group at 50'.. In other words, it shoots better than I can.. ![]() So, 50 rounds into this purchase I'm very, very happy with the gun.. Now to get a chance to do some real shooting with it.

Glad to hear you like your taurus. I have been having some problems from my springfield Gi. I was going to sell it outright, but my dad said he wanted it and would pay 500 for it. I talked the gun dealer down to 540 for the SS version. That leavs 40 dollars to go from an absolute bare bones 1911 to what I feel is a fully loaded version. The sights alone were worth it to me. the gi sights are horrible. Here's a pic of mine and a few other toys i got in today. |

Hey Paper, got me one today. Three clips( all my freezing fingers could handle) of pure pleasure. Been flirting on getting one for a while now...glad I finally gave in. The PT 1911 is tops in my book for now. Chit it is 10 deg here now, my old bones are complaining... you are probably used to it up there in the North country... ***************************************************** All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing |

Well, it's right around zero right now, and tomorrow night's supposed to bottom out at -10 or more.. As luck would have it, I picked up a box of round nosed lead .45 loads and shot this last week in the comfort of my club's indoor (read-heated) range. ![]() I'm very happy with mine, too.. So far, it loads round after round, and goes "bang" when I pull the tigger.. And I have no complaints with the accuracy, either.. Taking a bit to get used to the 8 sights, but it's comming along quickly.
