Well, after driving almost 200 miles thru Snow and Ice in the Dark to get to the new Sportsmans Warehouse ,I'm Depressed. There is NOT 1 Box of .338 Federal ammo in Alaska...In any of their Stores. Not stocked yet, so I look for dies for .338 Federal...NADA...Zip, No Brass available either. My New Kimber 84M will remain Unfired.So Then, I ask about a High Standard 1911 45 ACP...Nope, dont carry em. I left Sportsmans Warehouse with a bag of beef sticks...
Went to Walmart...Same story...

AH, I can't get em shipped to Alaska...NO UPS ground to here, and the post office doesn't allow ammo for some stupid reason. Too much to have em put on a Barge with the minimum charge.
Anybody Flying up for a visit ??? LOL

If you sharpen a cleaning rod and stick it in the bore, you can use it as a spear! I know that you have to have an 8mm Mauser, what's the advantage to buying a near-ballistical(is that a word?) twin that you can't find ammo for? The life of a gun-guy is hard...

I think the NRA should send you a box or two, by dog sled if necessary!

Try .308 brass, a .338 expander die, and a .338 Win Mag seater. That's how I make .338-06.

Check & see if the post office will ship the brass . I do not think there is any law or rule against it .

MM:Just checked Midway and they have ammo,no dies but do ship to alaska,ups same day,ups next day,and usps priority.I emagine you would have to call RCBS or the likes to get a die. sam.

Unprimed Brass is OK to mail...I do it all the time, the problem is NOBODY has any Brass available for .338 Federal..

We don't have UPS Delivery out here in the Wilderness, and they charge more than what the ammo costs with fees on top just to drop ship to a buddy in Anchorage...

Thanks Samuel I'll look into that !!! I probably would have to special order it and with Christmas so close and the suppliers (I was just told) in a frenzy to get gun and ammo out It would be News Years week when and if I could get it.
I ordered a new gun yesterday and thats what I was told. I'll call my friend at the Pawn and Gun shop to see if his source has it...He charges full price for ammo so I bet it's high !!!
I haven't even got around to getting the hog hat yet LOL...A.H

I called my friend and he can get all you want. Federal has 4 different weights and the price verys from $25.00 to $40.00 a box.(24.99 to 37.99)
His supplier is in Shreveport, La. which is not far from here. It takes 2 days to get it.
He will be opened this comeing Monday and closed Tues & Wed.
Reopens Thursday.

I could if DIES were available yet...Not listed as made by RCBS yet...I just wanted a couple boxes of Factory ammo to have for the rifle...I reaaly don't want to buy all the stuff to make ammo with since it is not one I will use for hunting, or target shooting...I'm sticking with the .300 Mag for hunting...

Hey Mooseman, I have, and will hold 2 boxes of 200gr Fusion for you until one of us goes in either direction. Or maybe somebody one of us knows makes the trip.

UPDATE!! Just came from the Freddy's at Muldoon and DeBarr, and they have 7 boxes a $32/box!!!! The kid I deal with says they have had calls from Wasilla to Soldotna!

The two I have are at $27/box.

The .338 Federal isn't readily available anywhere. You could neck up some .308 Win brass to .338 calibre.
This is from Guns & Ammo magazine.
"...If .308 brass is used, nothing more than a quick pass through a .338 Federal full-length sizer is needed. Trim to 2.00-inch length to square up the case..." Redding makes the dies. Good dies too.
"...It takes 2 days to get it..." Not to Alaska.
