| New 597
I just got a new 597 from Gander Mountain, and it has a pink/grey laminate stock with "Shoot like a girl...if you can!" laser inscribed on the side. Remington's website says this is a dealer exclusive, but I was wondering if anyone has heard of anyone that will recreate that custom stock for other models. Gander Mountain carries a Junior 870, but it's too small for me (I'm almost 6'2"). I love the stock, and would like to have a 12 gauge and also maybe a .270 to match my .22.

I've never heard of these stocks, but the 597 is an amazing shooter. I have one in the regular synthetic stock with a 4x Scope and Muzzle Break...shoots like a dream.

I have a 4x Barska on mine. Just sighted it in yesterday, and managed to head shot a grey squirrel in my folks' backyard today at 20 yards. I can't wait to get somewhere where I can do some decent distance shooting...the indoor range where I'm at is only 25 yards.  |

I gave mine a trigger job, I'm not sure how your trigger is, but mine was pretty stiff. The job is done by replacing the hammer. I think it cost $20 and was pretty easy to install. I was able to do it myself and I have little to no gunsmithing experience. Anyway, with the new trigger and muzzle break I'm filling a 1 to 1.5 inch circle at 50 yards. Once the barrel warms up, it's a really nice shooter and should produce good groups up to 100 yards if the shooter does their part  |

Yeah, my trigger is heavier than Rosie O'Donnell. Gander Mountain has a pretty nice gunsmith program, so I think I'll take it back there in the next few days and complain. Shawn said that they're supposed to come from the factory set at 6 lbs., but mine feels substantially heavier than that. I think I want it at about 4 lbs. when all is said and done.

Here is what I installed on my 597: MidwayUSA - Volquartsen Target Hammer Remington 597 22 Long Rifle, 22 Magnum Stainless Steel along with: REMINGTON 597 MUZZLE BREAK: MWG Company Like I said before, the break is purely for looks, as the .22rf produces little to no recoil. The target hammer turns it into a really nice shooter though. The hammer is pretty easy to install. Just remove the stock, punch to pins that hold in the trigger block. Take the block, look at how the original hammer is sitting in there, and just swap them. Easy as pie |
