| My first M1A
Just sent payment for my first M1A. Its all USGI TRW parts witha springfield reciever. I am going to order Scott Duffs book, what if any tools do I need for dissasembly, maintanace? If Its a tool I really don't need I don't want to waste the money on it. I'm a Garand man and I don't use any special tools on it even though some people do. Thanks guys

Unless your going to change out your gas cyl, or flash suppressor, you can get by with just the usgi tool. A castle nut pliers are really needed to do the flash suppressor, I use a padded vise to hold the gas cyl for disassembly. You'll need three different drill bits for cleaning the gas cyl. If you buy all the cool tools available, you can drop 200 bucks real quick.

ONLY field Strip it to clean it and use Carb Cleaner or whatever your preference. Taking it apart too often will cause uneeded wear and cause it to loosen up and the groups will suffer. You can gt it very clean in the field strip mode.
