| S&W 916A Shotgun - Does anybody have any pointers on giving it the once over?
I just purchased a Smith and Wesson 916A in very good condition (fantastic actually) from my local gun dealer. It's a real beauty of a gun with a nice solid feel and visually solid looking construction and weight. When picking up and comparing this gun to a few of the other ones in the same price range, this one just stuck out to me with it's 7+1 shell capacity and 18-20 inch barrel for home defense as well as it's looks. After purchasing, I went online to do a little more research on the 916A and found that this gun is possibly even 20+ years old (wow, it sure doesn't look it) and generally had some manufacturing problems during production. My question is, I'm about to take it out for some test shooting in a few days or so, does anybody have any pointers on how to give this gun the once over and make sure my version doesn't have any big problems. Aside from just doing some repeat firing, chambering and expelling shells, I'm not sure what else could really be tested to see the gun's general quality. Unless there's some glaring problems with this gun, I don't think I want to let it go, as I haven't seen one this solid looking around here in the shops for this price. -Mike Vote to get back your FULL Gun Rights! | S&W 916-A Shot Gun
Hi Mike, I have a S&W 916-A and I have had this shot gun for years may be 20+. I have a slug barrel with rifle sights and have found this to be one of the finest deer hunting guns of all times. I know I have dropped at least 75 deer with the shot gun alone. I have only missed with it on two accassion and that was because I rushed myself. You will find out very soon that this will be your favorite gun in your cabnet. Not much to learn just takes a bit to get to no the rifle sights. ENJOY your new TOY! You will not be disappointed with your purchase. Ole Timer |
