Question on clips

I have a number of USGI clips for my carbine, all 15 's except for one 30. Is there a dependable after market 30 rounder out there, or are they all junk like a lot of others. Seems the USGI 30's are hard to find.

You are gonna get hammered for calling them "Clips"...LOL They are Magazines, and there are very few aftermarket ones that will hold up or function properly...The 15 rd GI mags are still the best !
USGI 30 rd mags are spendy and getting hard to find...
Gunshows sometimes, I stumble on 1 or 2...

Then where and when did the word "Clip" come into being in place of the word magazine.
All my life I've heard Clip and as of late now Magazine.
To be Political Correct I have now started calling Clips Magazines, geez though a magazine is some thing you read and look at pictures...A.H

Dang, Mos...you just earned 13 lashes with a wet noodle...absolutely disgraceful!
I believe the "clip" got it's handle from early early magazine fed 22 and small cal rifles like the Winchester Model 43 whose magazines were held in place by a spring clip instead of a latch.
Who knows for sure...but it sounds good.

In keeping with the time honored tradition of deflecting at least a a bit of blame to someone else. And since I am allergic to noodle lashes. I referred back to my copy of U.S. M1 Carbines, Wartime Production By Craig Riesch Quote " The Type 3 magazine had a 30 Round capacity. It was also curved , which resulted in the nickname "Banana Clip".

OK, OK, I know, a bit lame but all I could come up with to help reduce my sentence. Not sure Riesch just threw that in for effect or not. I have found his book to be fairly accurate in most cases.

And of course you feed fixed magazines with stripper clips or charger clips...

I dunno what that has to do with anything; I just threw it in to muddy the waters...

... or we can all be totally PC and use the BATFE's designation - "large capacity ammunition feeding device".

I don't like pc it sucks. A magazine is a magazine if you call it a clip you are wrong, but we know exactly what you mean so don't worry about it

They have been referred to as clips as long and as often as they have magazines.

We drive autmobiles but call them cars, autos, rides, etc.

Just because some internet site tells you to call it one way is not a good reason in my book.

And by the way I think the term comes from stripper clips. Have they not been around as long or longer that detachable magazines? I bet they asked for clips not magazines when sitting in the trenches needing ammo!

Actually, guys, the terms are inter-changeable and have been for decades. They are both considered feed devices. Sexy and Lets...it's in the humor...don't take it so hard.

Hey, Mos...hand me one of those extruded metal bullet retaining devices so I can introduce my ammunition to the receiver of my carbine in the most expeditious manner possible.

LOL

Yeah, just having a little fun. Initially it was simply a Freudian slip of the fingers. Then had to run with it to stay ahead of the hammers and the noodle lashes. Look how informative this thread has become. We learned about spring clips, paper clips, stripper clips, charger clips and clip in magazines. Magazines you load and magazines you read(thanks AH). And my favorites "large capacity ammunition feeding devices" and "extruded metal bullet retaining devices" (I like that!!) WOW!!!
Found a couple of more 15's at the gun show this weekend, but alas, no 30's to be had...Carry on and !!!HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Mos, If we ever meet up, remind me to show you my stripper clips...but it's up to you to find the super 8mm projector.
Hey, am I on the right forum?

Oh, BTW, you're forgiven.

I understand both terms are used to describe this "thing" but being an old fussbudget I think it should be called correctly. Some rifles do use clips, M-1 Garand for example. It is a matter of nomenclature description. You don't call the barrel "the tube". You don't call the trigger" a "pull hook" & you shouldn't call a magazine a "clip". As per this response, call me a PITA. I believe that is the correct term. (besides, in coversation I've slipped up too, but keep it to yourself)
