quail near LA area ?

hello everyone,

been trying to find some areas in southern California for quails , but so far no luck. Do we have any upland hunters from LA area that can guide me towards the right direction. I'm am fairly new to this.. any info will be appreciated.

I don't know about Lower Alabamab (LA) I know, bad joke. But head for any open patch of desert and look for mearns or Gambles quail. Hint: They like to run

It's been horrible hunting this year in the deserts. In wetter years, you can find them just about anywhere there is brush for cover, grain nearby in fields (or even ragweed, which they love), and a reliable water source. When it's a dry year, they don't hatch many, and they are very scarce. The foothills from Phelan across 138 to Gorman is a good place to start. If you live near the Santa Monica mountains, there are some up there, I'm sure. Foothills other side of Tejon Ranch near the Grapevine, if you can find some decent stretches of public land. Big Bear on public land. Salton Sea low foothills. Just about anywhere in the Los Padres NF. Just not this year, since they are so few and the season is out anyway. I've tried three or four places, and came up empty handed.
