The best use for all of the M14s in inventory, on duty in the sand box and in the
hands of other countries is to modernize all of them and re-issue all them to US troops.

The Smith Enterprise, Inc. Crazy Horse M-14SE (SDM) (SASS)
a.k.a. M21 A5 Counter IED system and MK14 SEI
are incredibly
reliable and accurate MBRs that our troops can use in battle right away.
New barrels, gas cylinders, stocks, mags... are currently available and new
op rods and bolts are going to be available soon - all of them are mil spec.

I did not sign the petition.

so why is it no one ever grasps the concept that all M14 rifles are machine guns? you have just as much of a chance of getting an M60 from the CMP.

Apparently you didn't read the petition. They aren't asking for full-auto M-14's, they are asking that they be converted to semi-auto before being offerred for public sale.

apparently you dont understand the ATF- ONCE A MACHINE GUN, ALWAYS A MACHINE GUN. in order for this pettion to have one chance in heck, you would first have to get powers "that be" to change the ATF's ruling on machineguns. i dont think thats ever gonna happen. on the other note, there were less than 2 million M14's produced for the US government. a very large portion have been given as aid to other countries, or cut up. the services have very few of these rifles left, and what they have are being used, or used for parts. so besides the machinegun thing, there just doesnt exist a ready supply of the rifles to release. its not rocket science to see that no civilian will ever see one of these rifles, unless they can afford the $15,000+ that one of the few legal registered guns cost.

Waste of time. CMP does get a vote on what they sell. As articulated so clearly above, Congress and BATFE will never let M14s into circulation. But if it makes you feel better..............

I recently talked to an Army trooper just returned from IRAQ. They are screaming for M14s. If you want to do something constructive, write your congressman and suggest the Army start buying M1As. They are buying SR25s.

So what does it hurt to try? Yes, the odds are slim to none, but so is the lottery and someone wins one almost every week. There have been tons of former "machine gun" parts kits imported and built into semi-auto's using after-market receivers, which is what the petition is asking for.

I signed on also. As an M-14 ... not M1A owner, I love these rifles and they certainly STILL have their place. CMP needs to be able to offer these semi-auto's to the public.

Since when is typing for 20 seconds and clicking a button considered "beating your head against a wall"? I personally see nothing wrong with letting the gov't know the wishes of the american public. My parents' and grandparents' tax dollars paid for the damm things, why is it so wrong to tell the gov't we'd like to have what's left back? Since they would be rebuilt on AFTERMARKET semi-auto receivers, they are NOT machine guns. This is the same as saying a semi-auto AK, AR, M1, etc. is an "assault rifle".

I don't want them destroyed just so a few old USGI parts can be made available.
New production parts are available to civilians and new parts are in the pipeline.
Civilians can build all the semi-auto M14 type rifles they want without USGI M14s being sacrificed.

Modernize the real deal USGI M14s and put them back into the hands of our troops so they can go do that voodoo that they do so well!

That's fine as well. I just want them in the hands of our troops or U.S. citizens rather than going to waste in an armory or being cut up.

I don't see how any m14's will be getting cut up anytime soon They need all the spare parts in the sandbox. Just like the others said, once a machinegun always a machine gun . Just like the M2 carbines that only fire semi auto, get caught with just the reciever and you may end up on a vacation behind bars
