Looking to buy, how much should I spend?

I am interested in a Marlin 336 or any lever rifle like it, and want to know what I should be willing to pay for a used one. How much should I shell out for the ole deer killer?

I've been looking at Marlin and Winchester Lever guns that are used and I can't believe the prices in my area that there putting on the guns when they have them.

I give you my word I held 1 Marlin and 2 Winchesters today when I picked up some scope bases.

The Marlin looked good and it was 369 and a very used Winchester was 269 the other Winchester didn't look to used and I don't remember the price.

Depending on condititon it's hard to say but 275 to 350 dollars would be my guess.
The marlin has forged parts in them so don't be scard to buy a very used one.
I don't think you can wear one out. Just my 2 cents...A.H

Have you considered . . . ?

One place to really get a good deal is to find a used gun in very good condition on bore and action that has not had a good external life.
If you are into cleaning off stock finish and reconditioning wood plus removing any exterior bluing, minor rust, etc. and rebluing then for not much money you can wind up with a nice gun. Some of us have found this to be an enjoyable and satisfying hobby at different times in our lives.

Keep your eyes open and search the gun shop shelves and other sources daily if you can. I have found great deals on 336s and 94s in good to very good condition from time to time. Both of my Marlins I picked up for a little over 200. The thing is be ready to buy it the minute you see it or the guy/gal behind you will. Guns at that price do not stay on the shelf even for one day. I have missed some great guns at great prices because I hesitated. One I just went to my car to put my bags down then came back in and a guy was buying MY RIFLE! But for the most part Arkansas is right on with the price.

These guns are great to buy used. They are usually well cared for and shot very little. Even though I have 2 Marlins I keep looking for another one.
