| Senior Member | Recommended Calibers for Game My scanner went "kaput" so I just took a low res. picture of this chart that I thought would be interesting to some people. If you notice the print at the bottom, this is a chart from a National manual from 1994 to 2008. I liked it because of the mention of the 7mm Mauser which is ballistically identical, or even inferior, to the 7mm-08, my favourite. We discuss alot about this on here and this may be useful to many people; it has served our country well, as a guide, for 14 years. p.s. you have to maximize the screen to read the chart.

| Senior Member | 7mm Mauser and 7mm/08 Well, the 7mm Mauser has a long history as an extremely successful military cartridge with spillover into the civilian market. I noticed on the History Channel the soldiers who had the final encounter with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were armed with the 7mm Mauser. The 7mm/08 is also currently doing well in the civilian market. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I prefer the 7mm/08 to the .308. Last edited by nathangdad; 12-31-2007 at 10:10 AM. | Senior Member | I agree with ya Nathinggdad, about the preference of the 7mm-08. If you like the 7mm Mauser or the 6.5mm, google- WDM Bell, an elephant hunter that used these calibers to take 1000+ of the largest land creatures.

| Senior Member ![]() | I really like the 7mm/anything! What a bullet. I do not own a 7mm/08, but I surely want one!

| Senior Bear Fluffer ![]() | That is my greatest consternation as of late. Do I want a 6.5 x 55 or a 7mm-08. Just passed up on a couple swedes at great prices. Damn Christmas and taxes. I am just waiting for the deal and the money to be here at the same time. Either calibur will work for me. Just need one!!! or maybe two.

| Senior Member | In Canada, for some reason, the 7mm-08 isn't as common as most calibers so the ammo is expensive ($45.00/20 for my Hornady light mags.)but it is still worth it, I think! I probably could afford a new .223 and a new 6.5mm (would love both) if it wasn't for shooting $300.00 worth a week. For SwedeSteve... google "7mm musings", interesting stuff.
