| My first 1911! 2 weeks until I can order it!
I've decided I really like the full sized 1911s made by springfield armory. I don't know too much about firearms though and I confused myself comparing the springfield armory milspec and the loaded versions. Are the differences noticable? |

Well.. yes, theres actually quite a few differences between the mil-spec and loaded models. Firt off, the Loaded comes in a lot of variations, and there is just one Mil-spec (although it does come in both parked and stainless) Externally the hammer of the mil-spec is the GI style, as opposed to the Loaded models modern combat style lightweight hammers. The milspec has a GI style grip sately, as opposed to Loaded models beavertail grip saftey. They have different styled mainspring housings. Very different triggers. Loaded models have forward cocking serrations. Also you've got standard vs. ambidextrous grip safety. Loaded models have a titanium firing pin. Then you've got sights.. which are very different. The mil-spec sights are basically raised GI sights with dots on them. Loaded sights are modern low profile combat sights with dovetail fronts , novak night sites, or adjustable target sights. Theres other minor differences too. Basically the mil-spec is a slightly improved version of the classic WWII GI clone springfield makes. Sort of a compromise between history and usability. The loaded models are modern guns with modern features. Last edited by hexidismal; 01-08-2008 at 08:55 PM. |

Thanks! I think the loaded sounds like it's more tailored to my needs. I'm wanting something a bit more modern. I was originally going to get a 92fs so I'm so used to the black on black idea. I will probably have to replace the wooden grips with something black, but oh well. |

Well, I'm trying to find something that I could use for (in order of importance) target practice, carry, AND home defense. I'm about 5' 10" and I'm pretty slim, so I'm going to have to hit the gun shop and try a few on for size. why would you choose something different than a sa "loaded" for home defense and target practice? |
