Marlin Model 90 without a Web Between the Barrels

I am beginning to question the conventional thinking that Marlin did not start making their Model 90 O/U with an open space betweed the barrels until 1949 or '50. I have a Marlin Model 90, 16 ga. serial no. D184 (made in 1947) that has a web between the barrels. I just bought a Model 90, 12 ga. serial no. D1477, that is open between the barrels. I have two other Model 90's, a 12 ga. made in 1950 and a 20 ga. made in 1954 that are open between the barrels. Anyone else have a Marlin Model 90 having a serial no. from Axxx through Exxx that is open between the barrels? Just curious.

Dana,

Any theory as to why my Model 90, 12 ga, D1477 is open between the barrels while my 16 ga, D184 is closed? The number on the 12 ga. barrels is 1477 (no letter). It would be quite a coincidence if the previous owner replaced the original barrels with barrels having the same number.

Do you have a favorite among your nine model 90's?

My 20 with a strait stock. Works like a dream. Marlin could have answered your ? when Brophy was still alive. He was a big loss to Marlin and all the rest of us.

Dana,

What is the barrel length and chokes for your 20 ga G 1xx, Ixxx? Based on the serial number format, I assume it a J.C. Higgins version of the Marlin M90. I have been looking for a 20 ga. with 26" barrels choked IC/M
