I've trapped with a neighbor and as soon as he finishes build'in a hog trap I'll be assisting him with this latest indevier...LOL It gets comical around this feller. I would like to mention my Step Father because he's an old trapper. I went with him a few times to set out his traps and run them and it is hard work !!! This old cogger had about 90 traps but someone stole about 30 of them. He's pushing 80 years old and still gets around o.k. but he's had to deal with cancer a couple of times Radiations and Kemo treatments have left him a little weak. Though he'll Deer and Squirrel hunt but it wears him slam out. Trapping must get in your blood because when I go to visit him he'll bring up.... "Weve got to get out there and and git them traps ready" and of course we never do. It's kinda sad that if he did manage to get out and do some trapping it might cause him to get hurt or have a heart attack. I'll probably suggest to him we can put out maybe 10 along a creek on my land that he can drive up to, to kind of help him to fulfeel his dream to go one more time...A.H |

Good for you A.H.I bet that ole timer would love to run that road trapline with you.Like you mentioned it is something that gets in your blood and you never lose the thrill or anticipation of what the next trap on the line may hold.It seems we are doing a fair job teaching the younger generations the way of the outdoors, but we often forget about the old timers who would enjoy our company and caring as well.

I've been intersted in trapping myself, where do you guys find people to buy the pelts. I've seriously cosidering a 204 ruger on a H&R ultra varmint hunter platform but cant find where to sell the pelts in my area.

Good to see another trapper on the site White Dog.Sounds like you have got it going pretty good. stikbutter, I think if you do an internet search for Tennessee fur buyers it may get you some information. You may also want to check the classifieds in some of the papers in your area. Some fur buyers travel from city to city buying fur and will announce when and where they will be.Good luck with your trapping and your pelt hunting.-Scotty |

I trapped before I had my son was born. Though not as much as I used too. I married a woman, that well, just can't understand why a racoon is in her freezer. Have trapped beaver, fox, racoons, one squirel, and either the most determined oppusom, or a couple of dozen of them. In Pa they have a limited season that works on a drawing for permits for bobcat, and haven't drew one of them yet, but would like too. I was hopeing to get to take volentary lay off at work this year to do some more trapping and hunting, but no luck. |
