Springfield xD 9mm

I recently went through the whole decision-making process that you are all speaking of and after much thought and research I ultimately decided hands down to go with the XD. I bought the Springfield XD .45 GAP and have LOVED the gun ever since. I think the gun is beautiful, it fits my hand just right, and overall I think the gun is an impressive demonstration of innovation and modernity in a firearm.

Unfortunately I have to report that today my feelings went bad for the gun that I have loved so much. I was at the range shooting as usual when a brand new Winchester full metal jacket round got jammed-up in the chamber. Basically, when I loaded the magazine and released the slide, the slide only went up so far and then lodged. The slide is now stuck in the position of almost fully closed but not quite, and there is a live round in the chamber, though it is not fully aligned with the chamber of course. I am sickened by this event and have taken the gun to a professional gunsmith rather than submit it to Springfield becuse I need the gun back A.S.A.P. for training that I have scheduled with an NRA shooting instructor. I am very upset by this whole thing and am wonering if anyone might know what could be the cause of this... Thanks in advance...

Nope, loaded it with brand-new Winchester .45 G.A.P.

It has never done this before so I don't know what's wrong.

That XD45 is a fine piece of machinery...my first 45ACP. I've been pleased with mine since day one: good fit in the hand, shoots accurately, and cleans up easily. Had mine out yesterday to run some experimental reloads through it, some 200gr truncated cone TMJ. Initially, the first round in the clip didn't feed as well as others did, but smoothed out as I proceeded through the box. I really like the way it shoots regular FMJ and HP/XTP. As with all firearms, there may/will come a time when it has a temporary hick up, which I'll fix, and then press on. How easy it is to field strip makes it a very appealing pistol as well. ...ShootToLive

Well this is my first post here so Hi all great site.
I will tell you what a freind of mine had a Beretta brigadier and never could get it to group so he traded it off on a Glock34 after he shot one at the range (its a nice gun) I handled a few of them at the shop but none of them seem to fit my hand very well (like a bar of soap)so I looked at the Walther P99 fit my hand great but I had the P22 already and wnted something different so I looked at the Springfield XD Tactical in 9mm,liked everything about it so I rented one at the range and put 50 rounds though it, I was very imprest the way I and it shot,so I bought one that day(72hr wait time will be up Thursday3).Not saying the Glock or the Walther wouldnt have shot just as good.Its what works for you and what you are confident with. thats the bottom line.

I have an XD9 sub compact. Had it now for 3 weeks. About 1000 rounds through it, normal and rapid fire, from 2 mags, 10 and 16.. I could not be more pleased with a weapon. At first I thought the sights were off, shooting consistantly to the upper 1 o'clock position. I have had trouble correcting it. Then I looked back at my first experience with my Taurus PT940 and my S&W model 60 snubbie. Guess what, they wre the same. Hell, it is me, not the sights.
Hey, go with the XD, any caliber, you cannot go wrong.

This is a never ending battle once you "bash" someones favorite piece.. As for me, I've owned both a Glock 17 and still own a XD-9.. I PREFER the XD simply for the fact that it is more comfortable in my hands.. Think about it, if you are carrying concealed and lord forbid you have to draw, do you want to pull a handgun that isn't comfortable in your hands? I don't want my last dying thought "dang, I wish this grip fit my fingers better....."

As for reliability issues.. Unless you're shooting everyday in the harshest condition, these pistols will outlast us by a lifetime if taking care of properly.. I'm doing this for my own benefit, so I don't recommend it to anyone, but I've put over 1000 rounds through my XD (not my CCW)without cleaning it, and it hasn't jammed yet.. I'll clean it when it jams, and log the amount of ammo used...

My dad bought the Glock 20-something in 45 GAP and had the same problem with his within the first 20 rounds.. Some of the factory ammunition won't all the way down the barrel, resulting in a bullet lodged in the middle of the barrel.. your next shot dislodged the bullet but "bulged" your barrel in the process.. this is apparently some new safety factor the company's are doing and it won't allow for another round to be chambered.. Have the gunsmith check the barrel out, about half way down.. I'll bet he finds cracks and a bulging effect..
