| .280 Model 70
I love my Model 70 .280 with push round feed in a laminate stock. It is pillar bedded and the action is smooth as silk. Many deer have been harvested in the last 15 years with this gun. It is (was) one of the most accurate rifles I own, capable of consistent 3 shot groups under 1/2 inch with 154 gr. Hornady btsp bullets and HMR 4350 powder. Recently the groups have loosend to almost two inches @100 yards. Nothing has changed with the gun (that I know of.) Scope is a Leupold VXIII .50 mm. All settings are tight, nothing is loose. The gun is cleaned fastidiously. Perhaps it is me..... If the problems continue, I am seriously considering various options, including a custom barrel. This is my favorite hunting rifle and I have seven Model 70's, most of them pre '64's. Any suggestions? BobKegs |

Oops! My mistake: The load is 55 gr of IMR 4831 with the 154 Hornady BTSP. I has worked for me for a lot of years. BobKegs |

I'm not sure but it sounds as if the barrel is fouled pretty bad, that's if it's not shot out. I suggest trying some stuff called wipe out. You will be able to tell by the patches if this is some of your problem. Naturally check the riflings first. Also check the scope and scope mounts and bases. I had my target rifle do the same thing once and I checked the rings on the scope, and everything seemed tight. I grabbed the scope and tryed to move it to see if the bases worked loose, and it seemed tight. I then decided to pull the scope off and sure enough the bases had worked loose. This corrected my problem. These are thing I would look at first. I hope this helps.
