| Registered User | Eastern Carbine Very few people know what EASTERN CARBINE means. Your gun is nice but itis NOT and Eastern carbine. The last Eastern Carbines were shipped in 1925. After that they were all made standard "sans saddle ring" so no differentiation was made in the factory terminology. The period in which EASTERN CARBINES were shipped ran only from 1905 (starting at serial #300000) for only 20 years to 1925 (ending with serial #958700). Before 1905, and after 1925, no differentiation was made between those carbines that were shipped to the East and to the West. Eastern carbines were the result of realizing that most people in the East did not need a Saddle Ring, so the studs and rings were left off. This saved money and late in 1925 the decision was made to ship all carbines without Saddle Rings. A carbine with a Saddle Ring could be Special Ordered and I have one of those (it is serial #980812-made in 1925 and special ordered with Saddle Ring, Tang Peek Sight and a flat-folding double-leaf barrel sight so it doesn't interfere with the Peek Sight. Also has special grained wood). And I have several REAL Eastern carbines with special features that Easterners often desired. Last edited by guncollector1; 01-06-2008 at 06:08 PM.
