Scope for Glenfield 25

I bought an old Marlin Glenfield 25 (22 LR) today on Gunbrokers. It should be here in 10 days or so.

I’m 66, and need exercise, so decided to start shooting again. My eyes aren’t too good, so I want to put a scope on this old bolt-action.

What sort of problems am I likely to run into? Are there any mounts available which won’t require a gunsmith? I expect to get a zoom scope with a large diameter objective, the best I can find for around $100.00. I’ll be shooting sub-sonic, heavy rounds I expect. I’ll be shooting at about 25 yards. May do some American Rimfire Association shooting later after I get better.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Henry

My Marlin Glenfield 25 22LR bolt action arrived. I want to mount my scope with Weaver see-through rings, I think

I think these are called the detachable mount because each ring has a horizontal nut which is used to compress the mounting fingers into the dovetail grooves on top of the receiver.

Is this all there is to mounting the scope? I also see scope bases for sale. Are these also required between the Weaver see-through rings and the top of the receiver, or are the rings alone sufficient?

Another dumb question: do the rings normally come in pairs, or do I have to order two, priced separately?

Henry,
I have never used the see thru rings but looking at them online it seems that all you would have to do is have a standard weaver base and mount them right to it. Nothing else needed.
Is the rifle already drilled and tapped for a scope? If not you will need to take it to a gunsmith and have it done. I am not sure how much it would cost but I can't imagine it being more than $75-$100. As far as a scope is concerend I would suggest just going with a cheaper 3-9X varible scope. Bushnell, Tasco, BSA, or like. Any one of them will do fine for what you are wanting to do.
