| My "BB gun"
Figured I'd post some pics I've had for awhile Heres my airgun, its an AirArms 410erb "Pcp" (Pre-charged pneumatic) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...w/83c4e437.jpg Its proved to be an excellent small game rifle. You fill it with high pressure air- I use a special pump, looks just like a bicycle pump. You can either use the special foot pump, or a scuba tank. Here in the midwest theres a lack of dive shops nearby, so I stick with the manual pumping lol. After its filled, it gets roughly 60+ shots on full power- which I chronied at 925-930 fps at muzzle with a 16 grain .22 pellet. (about 31 ft-lbs of energy) All you do for each shot is work the bolt to load each pellet- it has an auto-indexing 10 shot removable magazine. The Airarms PCP's have a "shrouded" barrel setup- basically a built in silencer/ noise suppressor. From 30 feet away you can't even tell its being fired. With the gun shouldered you hear a "Tinnk" sound. The pellets impact is far, far louder than the discharge. The trigger is an excellent, adjustable true 2 stage "CD" unit. Fairly easy to adjust, mine breaks cleanly at roughly 1lb, with a very crisp second stage. As far as accuracy, I couldn't ask for more. I rarely shoot from a bench, but shortly after I got the gun, after sighting in at 30 yards, I shot this lasered- 70 yard 5 shot group. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...w/245857a2.jpg Heres a more recent set of targets. I shot these 12, 5 shot groups at 50 yards, Seated "FT" style, unrested. No chair, no bipod, no shooting sticks One of the best things about this rifle, is its allowed me to practice my offhand shooting way, way more than I'd ever get to do with a rimfire. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...w/PICT0011.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...w/PICT0008.jpg Needless to say, with unrested groups like that, its not much of a challenge to place a pellet below the ear of a squirrel when leaned against a tree. Unfortunetely, I don't get to use my favorite "seated" shooting position when Im squirrel hunting, at least not very often. I've started working on my standing offhand shooting, but its still a ways off from being considered "accurate" lol. Until that day comes, theres usually a tree to be found nearby to lean against when a shot presents itself. A 16 grain pellet fired at 925 fps carries enough energy to easily dispatch a squirrel past 70 yards. At the normal ranges during hunting of 20-30 yards, you can't tell the difference between one shot with a .22LR and one shot with the Airgun. Thats one of the biggest suprises I had when first shooting this rifle. Its amazing how much power 30 ft-lbs is. Especially since the guns report is so quiet, its pretty misleading. I wouldn't hesistate to take up to raccoon sized game as long as an accurate shot could be made. |
