FEG Out of Business?

Say it aint so!

I heard on another board that FEG was going out of business. Can anyone verify that?

FEG is the sound you make when the slide from a PA-63 bites the web of your thumb. As in,

"BANG! FEG! #$%^ing slide bit me!"

And for those who may not know it also is a contraction of the name of the Hungarian arms maker FEGARMY Arms (formerly known as Fegyver es Gazkeszuelekgyara NV).

Their website doesn't say anything about it:

Perhaps they've also heard rumors of their demise. That may be why they have "We Still Live!" in red in a little box at the top of the FEG homepage. Either that, or it's a national motto or something similar.

I took a couple of minutes to look over their pistol line. Quite a variety there! most look like either Walther or Browning Hi-Power variants. They look well made. The designations are new to me; no PA-63 or anything like that. It will be worthwhile to check on gunbroker.com and see what the various models are going for, I think.

My understanding from the guys at the FN Hi Power board is that their Hi Power clone is pretty well regarded. Charles Daly pistols are assembled here in the US with parts from FEG.

Let's see.

The P9R in 9mm (9mm Parabellum, I presume) is going for about $300.

What the FEG website calls the GRP seems to be the pistol we know as the PA-63, and depending on condition, accessories and number of mags shipped with it goes for anything form $99 to $300.

At the moment there aren't any of the other FEG-listed models up on gunbroker.com, but I think we can assume that as most of the others are variations on these two themes (except for the P9RZ, which seems to be a 9x19 double-stack hideout gun), the info above is a ballpark figure.

And to answer my own question about .380 ACP PA-63s: FEG does/did make a variant chambered specifically for the .380 ACP cartridge. It's called the FEG-380, the Mark II or the P65 or the P68. (Does anyone have a complete list of FEG designations? This is worse than trying to keep track of all the M1911A1 variants out there!) So I think what I'll need to do is keep my eyes open, save my money and wait to get lucky on a gun auction - at least until I can locate a reliable source of 9x18 ammunition!

Cyrano,

Are you having problems finding it locally? A number of companies make 9x18 in several configurations from cheap, plinking stuff to full-up self defense rounds.

Doc, NOBODY around here stocks 9x18! Do tell me more. I really do like the PA-63, but the ammunition problem is holding me back from buying one and going through the happy horse manure you have to go through to get one shipped to where you can pick it up. Do you have a link? Or someone I can contact?

Cyrano, not to step on Doc's post, but you may also want to look at Cabela's Official Website - Quality Hunting, Fishing, Camping and Outdoor Gear at competitive prices., AIMSurplus, your home for surplus ammunition, guns and firearms, J&G Sales, and Cheaper Than Dirt - America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter . This stuff isn't hard to find out here in the "real world".

T,
Doh!

Right on! Thanks for chiming in. It's been so long since I've ordered anything I forgot about AIM, Cabelas, and CTD. I think my wife misses the UPS guy too.
