| remington 788 .222
I have a model 788 in .222 cal that wont eject shells properly. The ejector rod seems to have plenty of free movement to allow the case to be ejected but the extractor wont let go of the case when bolt is brought back. Has anyone ever experienced this with the 788 or does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this problem without having to send the gun to a gunsmith?

Having had a similar problem, a couple basic questions are in order. Have you cleaned the bolt of dirt and debri? Does the extractor pin function? if not put a drop of light oil and retry? Is the empty case jammed in the bolt so that the extractor pin can not operate? Does this occur with certain brands of cases? If all of the above have been investigated, and you still have a problem. Have a gunsmith look at it.

| What worked for me
I tried everything, then contacted Remington- the first thing they asked me was if I had a scope mounted- it seems the only ejection problem they ever encouontered with the 788 was the empty brass hitting the windage knob on the scope and bouncing back into the chamber. The Tech guy I talked to suggested rotating the scope 90 degrees counterclockwise so no knobs were in the way. It worked. It's a little inconvenient/awkward figuring out which way to turn the knobs to align the sights, but you can mark them after you figure it out. |
