my new .22

Hi, everyone I got a winchester semi-automatic .22 LR for christmas, and I know its not the best choice for coyote hunting but its all I have for now. The best 2 ammo types I am looking at for coyote hunting are the cci veliciters or the cci stingers. This is the website link to both ammo types. 22 LONG RIFLE - Able Ammo

I just cant decide between the veliciters or the stingers for faster kills. so I need some help. Or if you have any suggestions on better ammo let me know,happy hunting.

My comment is to get a larger caliber rifle and save the 22 for Squirrels and Rabbits
but if you can live with the thought of crippling and mameing go a head on.

Stingers or Remington yellow jackets are hot loads for the 22 lr

since your absolutely hell bent on shooting coyote with a 22lr, keep the shots inside 25yds! better yet, find smaller game to hunt.

I'd vote for Velocitors, and make sure you can put the bullet into it's head. Keep it less than 75 yards.

get a bigger gun like a .223, and use that gun for small game like bunnies and just go to walmart and buy the LR value pack with 550 rounds for only $11

if you use a 22 to shoot a coyote be ready to track that sucker fo a long time

I would reccomend the velocitors. I looked at cci ammo online and if you click on the link for the velocitors it even says "up to large varmints-like coyotes", no such thing on the stingers. Plus I think the velocitors have a heavier bullet and still deliver excellent velocity.

Stingers at no more than 75 yards max and then mutiple shots will probably be needed.

Do you have a shotgun? No. 4 buckshot does wonder from what I've read.

My old full choke 20 ga. single shot with no. 2 buck in a 3 inch magnum picks 'em up and sets 'em down. My 10-22 stays in the gun cabinet and I use the .308, .45-70 or a muzzleloader for the dogs. The .45-70 is a NEF SB2 and I love it. I also have a .50 Huntsman muzzleloader barrel for it in stainless. I'm so impressed with those 2, I'm getting another SB2 stainless .22-250 bull barrel for varmints.

A friend of mine had a Raccoon pestering his dogs one day, so he ran inside and grabbed his 22 Remington auto loaded with Velocitors pumped him full with an entire mag, reloaded just in time to see the coon climbing over the fence. Hechased it not wanting it to suffer, and got close enough to get a clean head shot that finally did him in. Said it was the biggest coon he'd seen. Then said he'd never use those rounds again!

whatever you shoot at, I strongly suggest a copper jacket bullet. I have shot too many semi autos with plain led non jacketed bullets and had them jam. I don't know why, but especially in buckmark pistol. I just buy the federal 550 round box. any of the 550 round boxes are dirt cheap to shoot. I used to kill squirrels all the time out to 100 yards with my 22 befor I got a .17 this christmas. the .17 is the way to go for squirrels and small varmits, but not so much for plinking. I still break out the .22 for that.

I love my 17 for plinking (except for cost of ammo). Try filling an empty broth can with water then freezing it put it 30-40yds away and watch what happens, especially with CCI TNT!

Yeah, I like shooting my 17. I meant the way I go through rounds when I am plinking, I can't afford to shoot the 17 like a 22. I'll try that broth can thing, it sounds like it will be cool.

I haven't tried it yet but I saw the results of a guy that took a big metal coffee can stuck a roll of paper towels in it, then filled it eith water. Entrance hole small, exit hole large w/paper towel guts protruding!

That guy must not have put those bullets in a good spot. Velcitors should take a coon with no problem!
