| Senior Member ![]() | Try hunting in the real world instead of on paper, you may not be so lucky. There is a big difference in being able to place your shots and having to take what ever is presented to you. samuel. |

| Senior Member | I'm not waiting for Lefty O to post. Use your .270 on yotes till you can afford a .223, or trade it in on one. The .223 is more versatile. As much as I hate 'em, I dont want to see them suffer.

| Member | Im all for shooting light but a .22 for coyotes is way over my limit! I've shot them with buck shot at 30 yards and never found them. If at all possible, up size to a .223. They may be varmints but they deserve to die humanely! |

| Registered User | HI JACK AND EVERYONE ELSE. I AM BRAND NEW TO THIS SITE,BUT I LIKE IT ALREADY! JUST TO ADD MY EXP. WITH THOSE NASTY LITTLE BUGGERS; THE FUNNY LOOKING DOGS THAT WALK SIDEWAYS I MEAN. I HAVE TAKEN MANY USING .22 WIN MAG WITH MY ROLLING BLOCK UBERTI SINGLE. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN OUT MANY RABBID RACOONS THE SAME WAY. HIT EM ONCE RIGHT BEHIND THEIR FRONT LEG AT THE SHOULDER AND THEIR DOWN TO STAY! GOOD LUCK THE 22 LIVES ON AND BELIEVE ME YOU CAN DO A ONE SHOT RIP WITH ALMOST ANY CRITTER IF YOU CAN HIT THEM RIGHT. DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW BUT THE CHIEF HUNTER FOR MANY MUESEAMS-SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING,USES A 222 REM. BOLT. IT DOESN'T MAKE A BIG HOLE,CAN TAKE DOWN VERY LARGE GAME AND THEY STILL LOOK PRETTY ON DISPLAY. GOOD HUNTING TO ALL. CLEANER Last edited by cleaner; 11-18-2007 at 03:39 PM. Reason: WORD CHANGE |

| Senior Member ![]() | I dont know if this is going to work as I am on a special setup in the hospital but here goes:Both the .22lr and .22wrm have a standard 1in16 twist bbl. and wont stabilise bullets over 40gr.That is why hollowpoinrs are 36gr or less. They are just 40gr bullets with some lead removed. If you could find heavier bullets than 40gr which I doubt they wouldnt shoot straight because they would keyhole. The real way to make .22,s more deadly is to shoot lighter, faster bullets like stingers. But then you lose penetration.Mostly on bigger animals like coon, fox, and such the 36gr hp,hv is the most effective in my experience in lr and the Winchester hp,s in wrm,s.I find CCI wrm,s very inaccurate. sam. | Senior Member | breethwithme I was going to post that. The velcitors are the only .22 bullet I would attempt to shoot a coyote with. The quick shock bullets would be a good second choice. But if you have a larger gun use it!

| Banned | [quote=JohnD;506]Which is the most effective. The only coyotes I have shot with the 22lr were with solid 40grn. One droped instantly at 150yards That was some shot, 150yds. must have held over about 8-10 ft? I wish they would make a 40grn with a short hollow point so it would penatrate and expand to maby .35 cal. IF it could (not possible) expand to that diameter, it would be about 1/16" thick. |

| Member | Yes your right but some of us like to know how our gun is grouping. Instead of just cleaning brush with our shots. |

| Senior Member ![]() | I can understand how you feel.It would be much more fun to be out shooting than doing mundane jobs like clearing brush, but sometimes we have to work. sam. |
