| Registered User | The "Boresighter 4-16x40AO" scope that you have is by Simmons. I had one a while back that was on a used .308 that I bought. It worked well... for a while... Then the adjustment ring locked up. I sent it back and they replaced it with a Weaver that was actually better than the original scope I sent in. Granted, it took forever because they were moving their service facilities, so long in fact that I forgot I sent it in at all and then it showed up one day. I can't fault them for that though, atleast they took care of it and I wasn't even the original owner, yet they honored the lifetime warranty. |

| Senior Member | I'd say you did good. For the money, it's tough to beat a Savage. While their design is inexpensive to build, and they may not be the most eligant to the eye. Most are pretty darn good shooters. They are one of the safest out there. And what I like best about Savage, even though they don't spend money on cosmetics. They pay attention to detail in the areas that matter most, the bore and chamber! Dave |

| Banned | "...is by Simmons..." That'd make it a Savage 'package' rifle. I think. Seems to me that Savage packages come (or did) with a Simmons scope. I wouldn't worry too much about the scope. It's a dandy rifle. You can change scopes when you're ready. $300 isn't a bad price either. MSRP on the Model 10GXP3 is $602. Your rifle has a rifling twist of 1 in 12. Use under 60 grain bullets for the best accuracy. Mind you, if you're not reloading, you'll have to try as many brands of ammo as you can to find the ammo your new rifle shoots best. No two rifles, even two identical rifles with consecutive S/N's, will shoot the same ammo the same way. "...they honored the lifetime warranty..." A lot of firearms related companies will do that. Especially the reloading equipment industry. The rest of the manufacturing world can learn a great deal about customer service from them. |

| Senior Member | I got a Savage 12FV in .308, I put 12 rounds thru a hole the size of a quarter and a buddy of mine that is a "gun snob" has been bragging on it, so I know it is a great gun and one helluva bargain.my next Savage will be a Stevens 200 (made by Savage) in 7mm-08 for about $250, put a lower end Leupold on it and you got a gun you can throw in your pickup and take any game in Texas for sure. |

| Registered User | savage package deals been looking for a varmit rifle in either 22-250 or .243 but haven't been able to educate myself in exactly what to buy. I was at Dick's sporting goods the other day and say one of there package deals by Savage for a 12 FVXP Varmit in a 22-250 caliber. Searched the internet and cannot find any listing for that particular set of numbers - even Savage's catalog doesn't list it. I would like to buy a nice rifle equipped with a scope for under $700. Any help would be greatly appreciate. I also want to say I enjoy your forum and how everyone seems to try and help one another if needed. ![]() |

| Senior Member ![]() | I was watching the OutDoor Channel 2 weeks ago and lucky me I got to see a tour of the Savage plant that makes rifles and let me tell you every worker had pride !!! The guy takeing the tour was a haveing a rifle built as they went along. When the rifle was finished and it wasn't any different than the ones we can buy. They mounted a scope on it and took it to the range, It shot over lapping bullet holes. And probably 99.5% of there rifles shot the same...A.H |

| Member | I think gun prices in the last year have seriously went up in the last couple years. I remember when you could go buy a new rifle around $350.00 what happened to the good old days. Just recently bought a Remington model 700 223 I Love the accuracy of this rifle. But you got a Steal on the savage 22-250. I Have a question for any veteran coyote hunters out there. I coyote hunt A piece of property that I know for a fact that there is coyotes on. We have seen them there before. But for some reason I can't get them to reply to any of my locator calls and I have 5 different locators. But sometimes around 4:00 am you can hear them howling and chasing animals through the woods. So what should I do To locate and call them in better. Hey don If you want a good long range rifle 22-250 hands down. 243 is only good for 300 to 350 yards. but if you really want to make a profit off of hides be care of the shell you use.A peace of advice a gun shop will sell anything as long as you pay for it they don't care if you but a piece of crap. as long as it has the high price tag. More rifles you might want to look at are 223 (I own a Remington model 700 and I love the accuracy of this gun and the shell don't bankrupt you) .308 or another popular one is 25-06. All three are good long range rifles too.
