I used to get nervous everytime I was waiting for approval. The first time it took 3 days. Now they just call me in and they tell the dealer to tell me hi.

If you have NO negative history whatsoever and are refused the purchase, I would try to see if you could get a phone number to call and ask why you were denied.

Did you get your gun? Are you even still around here?

I find the NICS check annoying even though I understand the rationale behind it. But it takes my gun dealer less time to get an answer, even for a pistol, over the phone than it does for me to fill out the chickenshit paperwork on the purchase!

Not all Northeast states are like that.

In Maine (about as Northeast as you can get), there are little to zero restrictions. Walk into a gun shop or gunshow, walk out 5minutes later with a rifle/shotgun/handgun. No ID required for private sale, etc.

I can understand the need for the background check, but the two week wait in California is beyond me. And the fees the dealers can charge out there oughta be labeled robbery. I went to pick up a rifle my son sent from Nevada, in nonoperating condition, and had to wait two weeks and pay fifty dollars for the privilege of picking it up!

I think they do it just in the hopes it might discourage a few people that it normally wouldn't.

In California, the delay was originally enacted strictly as a "cooling off " period. Some idiot politicians decided it would stop someone from losing his temper, buying a gun and shooting the spouse or neighbor (don't look at me like that--it wasn't my idea...).

The first cooling off period, passed in 1923, was one day, and was for handguns only. Over the years it's gone to three days, five days, fifteen days and back down to ten days, and hasn't affected the murder rate a bit.

It's not a cooling-off period, anymore. It's more of their control mentality, make you as miserable as possible, and maybe you'll get tired of it and quit. What gets me is what the dealers out there are charging. Pretty much whatever they can get away with. I haven't had to pay a privilege fee for anything since I moved here. And that's what it is, a privilege fee!

no waiting period here in SC either.....if you have a CWP, then they give it to you no problem, if you don't, they make a phone, and then give it to you...unless of course you are a convicted criminal, then you get nothing!!

SCgirl, when I bought my AR-15 up in Joplin, right after I moved out here, and the manager carried it out to the truck for me(also bought ammo!), I started feeling like a fullblown US citizen again! Never felt so good!

If you truthfully answered all the questions on the 4473 you filled out, then you shouldn't have any problems. I doubt they would make something up - even in RI.

NC with CC

NC with a CC carry; We always have to fill out the forum. The seller is supposed to call in at the time of paperwork.
Now that I'm CC'd; show card, do paperwork, pay money and leave with said firearm.

My favorite 'gun money' taker; for me; doesn't call anymore. 'She' says; it's my smile

SCGirl: lives in a state next to me. I routinely get into her neck of the woods. I Shop and explore the different firearm facilities; and it continually piss'ess me off that I have to jump through hoops to buy in SC.

I know that "I" got off topic.
Main thing; keep your butt out of trouble.

When in doubt: IT PROBABLY IS WRONG

my brother gets denied because my scumbag other brother used his name and scocial security number as an alias. everytime he buys a gun its a huge hassle. in michigan you have to go and get a purchase permit, where they do there own background check, then he has no problems, he can get pistols, but has a heck of a time getting long guns.

Sometimes a delay may result if your name is similar to a restricted individual's. Sometimes the NIICS computer goes down.
I never had an Article 15 - they tried that gambit once, but I was being rail-roaded by a dishonest E6 and his pet Orrificer. I demanded Captain's Mast, had two Chiefs and a Senior Chief on my side, and we REAMED those b#$@$ds!! BWAHAHAHA!! This ol seadog bit them hard!
The E6 later went on a visit to Club Fed for stealing several Colt M1911A1 frames from the ship's arms locker. I bet HE gets denied . . .

I've NEVER been denied, and have bought so many the ATF should have a drawerful of NIICS calls for me.

Big Dog, I deserved the first one, got lost with a lady for a couple days just before I shipped to Nam. Got a six month suspended bust, and figured a year in country would take care of it. It did. The second time, I was under medical evaluation for six months, with a shattered elbow. The unit was a mess, no leadership, and no self respect. I was five minutes late to quarters, and the 90 day wonder decided to bust me and make me an example. I told him no OIC mast, he'd have to courtmartial me, and he did! But I got a good JAG lawyer, and beat him. Didn't have to stand a courtmartial, and he had to promise my lawyer as an officer, and a gentleman, that he wouldn't bust me. I got the oral reprimand, the written one, a six month fine of one-fifty a month, restriction, and a suspended bust. I had 25 days left in the service. The yeoman shitcanned all the paperwork, and when I got out, I made it a point to tell the OIC who ever told him that he could lead men was a liar. It left a bad taste in my mouth for a long time. But back to the thread, yes you can be delayed because of similarities in names.
