Help me identify

I was at my local dealer and i noticed he had a bucket full of old stocks. I just happened to be needing such a thing to practice refinishing a future project. I grabbed one of the stocks out of the bucket that needed alot of work. I bought it for 5dollars.

Well i got it home and have started refinishing the piece of wood and it looks really nice imo. It has a strong tiger stripe, and now i'm wondering what kind of rifle it came off of.

ON the bottom of the stock there is a imprint of what looks like a crown???

Can you take a picture of the under side of the stock? Like where the trigger and mag well would be. The first thing that came to mind for me was a older Mauser, like a 95 action. With a picture of the bottom, it may be possible to figure out what it is for sure. What ever it is, you sure do do a great job. It's beautiful.

Thanks, I'm still putting some more coats on it. It was originally a good deal more red in color, I may stain it alittle.

I think after a bit of research i found out what the rifle once was. There is a round circle on the side of the stock. I believe it to be a Swede M96 that was shortened. You see the metal disc in the stock. The stock i have has one in the same spot. They seem like some excellent rifles, but i imagine it would be a tough and expensive one to build out from a piece of wood.

Unless it is obvious the stock was cut, it may be a swede M38.
