minor sigma issue

So, I'm fairly new to pistols, and I bought a Sigma 9mm recently. I've been happy with it, only put about a thousand rounds through it, but when I went to take it out this weekend I noticed something funny. Forgive me if I get any terminology wrong here, but it seems the firing pin is activating at the beginning of the action - when I pull the slide back, the loud click of the firing pin being ready is almost instant. I've dry-fired it a few times to confirm, and I can fire (though probably not load a bullet into the chamber) by pulling the slide back maybe an inch at most. This doesn't seem right to me, and I'm wondering if I did something wrong last time I cleaned it. Just in case, I figured I'd post here before I took it apart again, see if this is just how they work and I never noticed, or maybe some easy fix I'm overlooking. Anyone know of this problem, or how to fix it? Thanks!

Did or have you cleaned it recently? Maybe there is some dirt or grime causing it to stick or something. Not to familiar with Sigmas. But whatever happening, if anything, could be due to improper or insufficient cleaning. If you are concerned, I suggest before you use it, take it to a reputable shop and have it looked at. Maybe you forgot to put a part back in, or put a part back in wrong? Take it back apart and dbl. check. It can't hurt.

P.S. check other posts for similar or same thing/s. Especially check out this Sigma post.

It's clean, and the only disassembly I did was the basic - remove the slide, remove the spring and barrel, clean and replace - so i know i didn't leave anything out. It IS possible i put something in wrong, definitely, but I thought i'd see if anyone could tell me "Oh, yup, you did ____ wrong" before I tried to fix it. If no one can help me here, i'll take it to a friend or if necessary a gunshop.

Thanks Shawn, I wasn't sure if it always did that and I never noticed, or if something went wrong. I don't think the striker is broken, GlockMeister, it seemed to function fine when I dry-fired a few times.
