There is no doubt that a .45 has more stopping power than a 9mm. Anyone who has done any research at all knows that. That's not what this thread is about.

The reason why this thread was started was to give good news to Beretta fans like myself, who are interested in news about the Beretta. Thats why it is placed under the Beretta topics. The news is about a NEW contract that starts in June 2008 and lasts till 2010 that calls for more than 25,000 new Beretta M9's, so they most not be doing to bad.

Hey... Beretta's are good guns... like I said, I prefer the earlier versions. They've served me well over the past 14+ years, I have no quarrels.

I hear they are still testing 3 firearms. Here is an excerpt from Air Force
Times.

A new addition to the company's Military & Police line, the M&P45 looks like
the rest of the pack. The magazine holds 10 rounds, the pistol comes in a
dark earth brown and there's a standard rail system under the barrel. The
pistol also features ambidextrous slide stops and optional thumb safeties,
as well as an easily reversible magazine ejection button. Interchangeable
handgrips in three sizes make the weapon comfortable for most hand sizes.
With an overall length of 8.05 inches and weighing in at 29.6 ounces
(without the magazine), the pistol just begs to be fired. Company officials
expect it to begin hitting the streets in March, with a suggested retail
price of $600 to $650. Catch an early glimpse at
Home Page - Smith & Wesson.

Heckler and Koch's HK45 also looks like it has a shot at the prize. Similar
to the others in features and styling, the HK45 is smaller than Smith &
Wesson's pistol, coming in at 7.52 inches overall, and weighs about 2 ounces
less. Company officials added that the HK45 has a unique mechanical recoil
reduction system inside that cuts recoil by as much as 30 percent, making it
easier to control during rapid firing.

Unwilling to go down without a fight, Beretta also created a challenger for
the contract, the Px4 Storm .45 SD. The most noticeable feature of the
"special duty" pistol is the extended barrel, designed for use with an
optional suppressor.

Will you ever see any of them in the field? Hard to say. After all, the
venerable M1911 was the workhorse of the military for 70 years before it was
replaced.

Change comes slow.

Or has not that much been leaked out yet? Just the rumor of a Glock in .45cal? LMK

What I would like to know is why they don't allow the military to use Hydro-shocks? I work at a major nuclear plant on a anti-terrorist team and they let us carry them.

I know about rules of warfare and all that crap. But the war we are into is a un-conventional war. So should the same rules apply?

I will say the Berretta is very comfortable to hold but its accuracy is not as good as the M1911 nor does it have the stopping power of the .45.

I found it odd way back when we were first issued these firearms why the U.S. would sign a contract for a Military Firearm to a once MAJOR U.S. Enemy.

LOL, this post is almost to funny to respond to. Italy was our enemy over 60 years ago. Right now they are one of the few countries that has been one of our allies in our war with Terrorism. What you will find below is a writen assessment from someone who owns both the 1911 Colt and the Beretta 92FS, this a quote from someone on a another forum:

"last year i bought my first NIB Beretta 92FS and i also bought a NIB 1991 Goverment Model Colt .45.i love both guns but in 2000 rounds last year my 92 FTF only once and it was due to an off brand mag where the round hung up on the mag lips, my .45 on the other hand jams every 50 to 100 rounds, mostly the gun dosnt go into battery.if i have a choice of using my 92FS or my Colt i will trust my life to my 92FS or my M9 any day .

Joe"
