Amt 45 advice

Hey guys, I have the chance to buy a AMT full size 45. It's stainless and looks really nice. The only thing I see tampered with is someone put a Springfield Armory barrel in it. What kind of reputation does this gun have? Is it worth $325.00? Thanks for the responses in advance.

Most pretty bad. I have never owned one but I did own a Amt .380 backup for about three days and if it is like that turn around and run away. Save your money and buy a real 1911 like a Colt or Springfield. If you want a nice .45 but don't want to spend a lot of money look for a good used Star pd. They are slick little .45s and cost about what you want to pay for this AMT.

Quality control was all over the place on these, I have seen really good ones and bad can you shoot it first? I almost bought a long slide back in the 80's but it had been reworked by the army armorers at Ft. Riley KS. when we were at the regionals there.

AMT Hardballer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some insight...
I have an IAI Automag III and love it. IAI bought AMT in the late 80's I believe. They are now gone but they put out some reasonably good weapons.
The price is good...but if you can shoot it first, do so.

+1 to shooting it before you buy. AMT was all over the board in quality control back in the 1980's.

AMT 45 Hardballer, my love! Purchased one in September 1977 when AMT was the only one making stainless steel 1911s. Serial no A03318. Cost me $400 back then. I reload my own ammo and have fed this 225gr Speer bullets with 7.5 grs of Unique going out at approx 1000 fps. Mine is an X ringer and to this day doesn't show any wear. The only beauty inhancements it's had is a set of Pachmyers and a belt clip that mounts under the grips for inside the jeans carry.

I had a friend who shot a High Standard Military 22 (HD Military) and we would go to the indoor range and glue Nestles hard candy disc on the paper, two verticle columns, and I would stay right with him breaking the disc.

I've only had this one and don't know about the poor reports and quality control at AMT but my Hardballer is supreme. If the barrel has been replaced I'd be concerned if it had a matching bushing. Hope you find a good one.
