M60 for Christmas

My son (11) got an M60 from Mom and Dad for Christmas this year. And a box of .22LR from Santa in the stocking too. Grandpa and Dad took him out today to do some plinking. I think he had trouble seeing the sights because his smile was so big! He had so much fun he has invited Mom and his two brothers to go shooting his new rifle next time. I think this is one of those "Christmas to remember" years. He's already askin' to "accessorize"!

I realize this is off-topic and I apologize, but when I first saw the topic of this thread I thought "Wow, I would love to get a fully-automatic belt-fed machine gun for Christmas!" *chuckle*

Now I'm the one gettin a chuckle... ...I thought since it was in the "Marlin" forum that it was self explanitory. Of course, "a fully-automatic belt-fed machine gun" would be a Christmas to remember!!! LOL

So it's been almost a month and a half, what are your thoughts on the gun now? I saw one the other day when we picked up a Mossberg 702 and I almost bought the Model 60 strictly because the wood on the stock was awesome compared to any of the Mossberg stocks. I was considering going back and picking it up, but would like to here your thoughts on this gun now that you've had some time to play with it (or your son's experiances as well).

I’m sorry I didn’t see your post sooner. I haven’t been on the computer much of late. My boy really likes his rifle and wants to scope it and add a sling. I told him we’d wait on the scope till he gets better with the iron sights first. I’ve had experience with several Marlin M60 (or Glennfields) over the years. I’ve also had a Marlin 39A and my wife has a 39D. Given the quality I’ve seen from Marlin in the past I had no misgivings what-so-ever in buying this rifle for my son By the way, I have two younger boys who’ll need to have a first gun too.
