New C & R License

We had a really trying day today at work. The one bright spot was getting home and discovering our new C & R license today in the mail . It only took three 3 weeks and 3 days for us to get it. Not that I was counting on anything. I was expecting at least 8 weeks.

Now the big question is, what do we buy first?

Congrats redhed. Really happy for you. As paper said, and probably said it from experience, burn that credit card. lol Again, congrats on your C&R license.

To heck with credit cards!

Gotta CD maturing in a few days. I'm spending my inheritance! Just joking... a little.

Right now I'm thinking Mauser, Enfield, Tokarov, Makarov, SKS, right now I'm looking at a Spanish Mauser in .308. the list goes on and on, I'm afraid.

I really don't know what we did right in order to get ours so fast. I'm not gonna question it, I'm just going to enjoy it!!

We did have a good friend who is an FFL give us tips about how to avoid problems with it. It seemed pretty straight forward to me, even without her advice. Any tips about any companies who are particularly friendly to C & R?

I am pushing a month waiting for my C&R. I figure since I was a former 01FFL holder that it may take a little longer. That is OK. I still can not decide what to buy next anyway. I get it all figured out and announce that I am going to buy X and then a nice XYZ shows itself and I wind up driving myself nuts. Sometimes I wish I had never found out how much fun collecting military rifles was. When it was stock sporter remingtons, savages and the like it was more about what caliber and what optics. Now, it is Tula and Finn and look at that Swedish Mauser and that SKS. Mosinitis is a BAD disease and military riflitis is even worse because there are so many different things to look for and explore. I guess that is half the fun but I DO drive myself nuts waffling on decisions.

As far as who's C and R friendly, AIM and SOG are both very friendly and since they're close (just north of Cincinnati) the shipping is both fast and cheap!!!

I bought a pair of M38's from SOG a few weeks ago, purely as an investment.. They arrived 3 days after ordering, and shipping was less than $20.. Ammo is usually the same.. Speedy and cheap..

Also, both aren't that far from IL, and both will let you call in orders and pick up in person.. Don't ask me why I know this..

You might as well start practicing the following line:

"I don't have a problem!"

You'll be saying it to people before long..

Congratulations, redhed. I'm closing in on twelve weeks and the BATFE satellite office hasn't even been in touch with me yet to set up an appointment to prove: A) I'm a real person, B) with a real house and street address, C) where I can store a firearms collection safely, that D) should get a favorable report recommending approval sent back to Atlanta, which E) will eventually issue the C&R. Probably about the same time hell freezes over, at this rate. My application, according to the BATFE, is "pending."

The suggestion has been made that things are set up this way by the BATFE office that covers the Peoples Democratic Republic of New York so as to discourage people from applying for firearms licenses. Given how quickly folks on this forum in other places get their C&Rs, I must believe there is something to that. When all you want to do is start collecting without having to spend a fortune on transfer fees and gasoline, and hours traveling to a shop that may or may not have a piece you want after you get to see and examine it, the situation gets mighty depressing.

But I'm glad you have yours.

How much does it cost to get a C&R license, if I might ask?

$30 and 18 fingernails..

That $30 is good for 3 years, too..

I should mention that that $30 was saved with my very first order.. Not having transfer fees adds up pretty quickly!!

About three weeks on mine. It came today. Looking at M1 either garand or carbine. Both if I can sneek one through the CFO.

I can't believe all the hoops you folks have to jump through in New York. I feel for you.

Hang in there, and if all else fails, start complaining....nicely of course.

Mine finally showed up in the mail today. No visit from an investigator to prove I'm a real person living at a rea address with a real house or anything. It just arrived in the mail. No books yet, no forms yet. I've already scanned it in so I can print copies out at need. But apparently now I can start collecting as the budget permits.
