Everyone who owns a Beagle knows how great they are at hunting Rabbits, and how great they are as pets. But now for the first time a Beagle won best in show at the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008:

Is this a change?

I wonder if this represents a change in what's "fashionable" with dogs. For so long we have had "show dogs" that exhibited such exaggerated expression of the breeds that they promoted genetic problems. Also, they made a split within many breeds such as bench/field Springers. The whole idea that show dogs represent hunting or working dogs has become a farce.

I don't know but I suspect that there is some differences between beagles that are for show and hunting but I can't imagine that it's to the extent we see with some hunting dogs that are also popular as show dogs. I hope that the winner gets the chance to occasionally run some Bunnies.
