New 700, what do you think?

Hey, guys.

I just found a Remington 700 ADL with a walnut stock in .30-06 and open sights for $500. I can't believe how hard it is to find a quality rifle with factory sights these days. You'd think more people would use a type of sight that doesn't require fitting, constant adjustments and re-zeroing, and doesn't fog up or get torqued, twisted or bent.

That said, if I ever need or want to, I will put a decent scope on it, but it's good to know I don't have to just to shoot it.

I have always wanted one of these rifles, and to find one with such a nice stock is amazing. I'll be buying it in the next week or so, and I'll try to get pictures up once I do.

By the way, it's brand new in the box.

Well, what do you guys think? Deal or no deal?

(I'm buying it regardless, I just want everyone's thoughts.)

According to my book that is max price.If you like it thats what counts.Open sights have to be adjusted for different bullets.I never liked Rem,s adjustable back sight.It shakes loose too easy.When you adjust it dont overtighten it.I would sugest putting a better sight on.I'm sure you will like it once you get it set up. sam.

Can't go wrong with a 700. I have three. One with a synthetic stock I am about to sell. I just need to decide on a price.

I love my 700!
I say it is probably worth that.Just for arguments sake,I would do a little comparison shopping on it.

Mine is my best big game rifle. It was drilled perfectly for a scope mount. I have gotten some superb accuracy out it with Hornady 130 gr SP. You can tweak them with lots of accessories. And as far as I know they don't make the ADL anymore?

Here's mine currently in a H&S stock with high Leupold dovetail rings. The gun can set a year and when I test fire it I find it still where I left it.

Walnut is good and all I just prefer the plactics for diff reasons. I almost got a laminate for it, a very unusual grey black color but they wanted a tad too much I thought and I waited to long...it went bye bye.

Note: I have converted my ADL into a BDL also with the floorplate. All the screws are there. Like I say lot's of tweaking and playing with a 700 is possible.

No, they don't make the ADL anymore. Yes, I probably will get a low-profile peep sight or something; and thanks, samuel for the advice on the sights...

Nice setup, killer. I really like that scope...

I have a 700 243 BDL I bought in the mid seventies and still have it. Great gun! Factory loads give 1 and a half inch groups at 100 yards but my reloads give me groups down to half inch. I use a scope that uses see thru sights. I guess they still make them although some shooters have mixed feelings about them. They do put the scope an inch or so higher above the barrel than normal mounts but you can use the fixed sights if you want to. You'll be buying a quality firearm- You won't be disappointed!
