| Senior Member | Just mail them a hard copy. That is all you need. They put it on file and it is there when you need it. In re inspections: they must make an appointment no matter where you live. They cannot just show up at your door. You must record in your book ALL C&R firearms that you obtain while you have the license whether you use the license or not. When you cease to have a license, you are NOT required to turn in your bound book. I should be getting the paperwork shortly for my 3rd renewal....Best money I ever spent.

| Senior Member | I've had my C&R over a year now, bought one No 4 Enfield, advertised Curio & Relic. Sent them a signed copy in ink as requested, no problem. Question: Do companies have the option to list rifles, receivers, C&R or FFL dealer required. Example: Found a No 1 Mark III Enfield receiver, Theyt advertised had to be sent to a FFL holder. You would think a C&R license would be suficiant. |

| One Buwwit Weft ![]() | Your C&R is an FFL license, as it's a FFL 03. Did they advertise a FFL 01 only? Also, you need to remember that they have the right not to accept a Curio and Relic license if they don't want to. Even if a C&R is eligible and completely legal, they don't have to sell to a C&R holder if they don't want to. I've got a local shot that sells a bunch of guns, and always has a selection of Mil-Surp guns. He doesn't accept a C and R because he doesn't want the hassle of proving that the gun was C and R eligible to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms when they check his records.. It's his store and he can do as he wishes.. I bought a 43 Husky Swedish Mauser from him a couple months ago and I had to fill out a 4473.. Wasn't really an issue since I was buying a new Savage at the same time. He's up front about it, and it's his store.. I could boycot him for not being able to purchase with a C&R, but since I find deals in there on guns I want, why do that to myself? ![]()

| Senior Member | In the advertisement it's listed as "Must be shipped to a FFL Dealer. So its my guess that since I'm not a dealer my C&R doesn't count, would I be right? I have severals FFL dealers its really not a problem. Seems that a dealer doesn't want the hassel os sending them a copy of their license. Last edited by mdj696; 02-17-2008 at 09:10 PM. One thing.. Most of the time I'll email and ask if they'll accept my FFL03 license, since the item is C and R eligible.. Usually, I'll get a "Sure" and go about the purchase.. Occasionally you'll get someone who won't do it, but most will when asked..

| Senior Member | C&R requires that the firearm be both complete AND in essentially original configuration. The laws specifically state that a receiver is NOT C&R since it can be used as the basis for an entirely different firearm.

| Senior Member | Heres a question, it may be answered but I didn't read through all the posts. I am still waiting for my c&r to arrive, once I get it. when i purchase a firearm, will I have to pay the backgound (brady tax) check fee if what I am buying is not a c&r weapon, I know the transfer fee would apply if bought online, but if I went into a store and got a new gun, would the background fee still apply? I would think not, since a would be a license holder, but I thought i'd ask anyway.

| Member | Roadie, Your C&R is good ONLY for C&R classified weapons. If you by a modern firearm at a gun store you are just another customer, you will have to do all of the paperwork needed where you live and pay appropriate fees. I'm not sure if having a C&R means anything if you buy a C&R gun at a store. At least here in California it means nothing, I still have to do the paperwork, pay DROS fees and wait ten days. If someone living elsewhere has a different experience please chime in. Basically the C&R allows interstate shipment of eligible guns to your door. Guns have to be shipped to an FFL holder, having a C&R makes you an FFL holder able to receive C&R guns. And the gun has to be legal in your state (I'm in California, don't get me started on that....) |

| One Buwwit Weft ![]() | Or, if it doesn't have a serial number, check Gun Trader's Guide to see when it was last made. I have a few Mossberg 151K .22 rifles, and they're C and R because the last time they were manufactured was over 50 years ago. None of them had serial numbers, though..

| Senior Member | I asked the ATF that same question and they said only the items you buy with the c&r need to be logged. But they did say that you ought to keep records of everything you have for security/insurance reasons. I'm in week 10 of waiting for mine...I called the license center and they said it was still processing...they said average now is about 90 days. so those who got it quicker are pretty lucky.
