The "byf" head stamp indicates that it was produced by Mauser Waffenfabriken. I can't remember who all in Germany was cranking out Hitler's rifle, but I do know for fact that "byf" is Mauser. Other places, including concentration camps such as Auschwitz, and other arms makers like Walther Waffenfabriken produced the rifle too. I'll dig up that info and post it some time if you're interested, but as for what you have, it is (atleast the barrel and receiver) a Mauser Kar98k produced at Mauser Waffenfabriken in Berlin in the year of 1944. As for who was responsible for it being reasenaled, I'm unsure. It's in beautiful condition though! Great steal! Have fun. Hope this helps.
