It's odd how a nations weapons tend to reflect the culture. There is a clean, angular, linear, symmetrical look to the 98 that just screams German warrior culture. It has the same relationship to Germany that the Khukri does to Nepal, and the Webley does to Victorian Britain. In contrast the Mosin Nagant for instance has all of the asthetically pleasing qualities of a Russian farmer's long handled shovel, totally utilitarian. The 03' Springfield has that Yankee ingenuity thing going for it (uh, you Germans have a great rifle and all, but we're just gonna fix it up a bit). The Schmidt-Rubin is as precision a machine as a fine Swiss timepiece, The Lebel, uh.......we won't go there, but "ooh, la,la". The one notable exception is the Italian Carcano, which looks like it was bought in kit form and put together in a dark garage by a blind man and an organ grinder's monkey.

You know, you have a VERY good point there BallBearing....and as much as I LOVE my Mosins, I must agree....it does look alot like a shovel....or maybe a hoe? No no no.....she's not like that!!! lol Point is still true though...You can still see it in the AR and AK's, the new G36 even. Wonder what happens 100 years from now? Guess....well, guess some one we'll see, probably not us though!
