Since I'm on the farm and fix fences, I used my fencing pliers (they have a rounded head coming to a point on one end for pulling fence staples and a hammer head nose on the opposite end for driving staples. I just grabbed the tab on the can and rolled the pliers back, go another grip and rolled it again, then I just pulled and the heavily soldered strip came off. Easy.

In the style of Jeff Foxworthy:

"If you have a truck that hasn't been moved in three years because you just don't see any urgent need to replace four flat tires, you might be a redneck!"

I haven't opened my 2nd spam can yet. I keep going back and forth on if I should open it and put everything into an ammo can or if I should just leave it in the can until I need it. After all it has been in there since '54 and what are a few more month.
BUT, it is so tempting to try to open the 2nd can!

i just use a hammer and chisel. i can go all the way around the can in about 2 minutes- that damned pull tab they put on them cans is a joke, especially since they solder the dang ring down on some.

use tin snips, either red or yellow. works like a charm, go in a counter clock direction. along the seam on the can. also works for cans of food you have on the job site.

Righteous: Is that ammo Greek?

rondog: My latest purchase came from The Sportsman's Guide, 1 can (300 rounds) Bulgarian HB 182gr. for about $60 delivered at my door step.

And here's the ebay listing that shows two of them, in case you want to buy one against the purchase of your next spam can of ammo:

Mosin Nagant, Russian, Polish, Ammo openers 7.62x54 - eBay (item 270212501844 end time Feb-23-08 08:42:00 PST)
For some reason eBay pulled this listing. I have searched for it (even under completed listings) and can not find it!
Wonder why?
