| Registered User | Old Colt auto. Hi all, First time to the forum. Like what I see so far. My name is Phil, and my question is: There is a letter "C" before the serial number. I think it stands for commericial. If this is true, what is the significance? Thanks. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | If it is a 1911 with C pre-fix, then it is commercial and Not a Military Issue Gun.Still very colectible, ESPECIALLY if it the high polish Blue Model mfg. 1912-serial number C4500... Rich

| Senior Member | If you really want to know all about the gun, join up at The M1911 Pistols Organization Forums Site? and 1911Forum.com - 1911 news, reviews, and more! Those are the two best Colt 1911 sites I know. Not that there's anything wrong with this forum, it's just that this site is about guns/shooting/hunting in general, and the other sites are full of guys that are serious 1911 collectors and real experts on the 1911's. LOTS of knowledge there, but have photos ready. There's guys there that can tell you details from your photos that you would never know otherwise. Correct/incorrect parts, refinishing, arsenal rebuilds, values, you name it. Behave yourself though, they run clean forums and have no tolerance for bad language or attitudes. Multi-national too, so they're sensitive to cultural slanders as well. Great sites though, as is this one. Last edited by rondog; 02-23-2008 at 05:02 PM. |
