Chrome M1 bolt

While checking out a local gunshop I noticed a Springfield M1 Garand with a chromed bolt and operating rod. At first I thought the parts may have been chromed to make up for loose tolerances, but it appears that the chrome is only on the visible areas, not wear surfaces. What gives here, drill rifle parts?

The rifle also has a 1967 barrel date, with a crown that has three stars above it. A Dane rifle? The reciever date puts it around 1943 and overall it looked nice, just the chrome on the bolt and op rod. It did have import markings, can't remember what they were.

Not buying the rifle, just curious on what you guys think about the chrome.

Most likely a drill rifle. I bought one that the op rod was polished and clear coated and i thought it might be a drill rifle but the barrel was like new inside. The gun was tight the reciever is from 1943 also, and it shoots good. My barrel is from 53, the stock looks varnished and still has cartouches on it.

High probability it is made from parts.
This is just too odd for a more logical
explanation such as drill or ceremony.

No, there was no welding that I could see Dookie.

I'm leaning towards the rifle being assembled with parts from various sources. Maybe the operating rod and bolt came off a ceremonial rifle.
