Mp 40 magazine issue.....please help

I purchased my mp a few days ago and just purchased ammo for it today. I got all 10 rounds in the magazine just fine. However, when I went to put it into the gun, it did not go easily. Felt like something was keeping it from going all the way in. If I hit it hard, it would go but I could not get it to go just by pushing it in. Any ideas? Also, when the slide is all the way back, the full mag goes in just fine. Please help!!

I'd give S&W a call and see what they have to say. I haven't had this issue with my M&P-9. Worst case is that S&W would have you return them for a new pair.

EDIT: Ok, after thinking this over, I think something is fishy (it's the magazines, not your gun, don't worry).

Please post some pictures of your magazines so that I can confirm my theory.

BTW, do you live in California?

While I have not handled one of them, I believe from what I read is that there is a Magazine safety bar in the magwell...It is a disconnect device...
That may be the reason you have to jam the clip in when the slide is closed.
Slide open..No problem..May just need some lube in there...
That pistol has no manual safety does it ?

No, I do not live in Cali. I will have to send pics when I get home at the end of my day.
It just feels kind of tight when I push it in and then it pops out. I have to hit it fairly hard to get it to go in. But it does go in and feeds no problem.
No, it does not have a manual safety.

Why would a mag disconnect keep it from loading properly? (I am new and unfamiliar with these things)

The M&P 9, 40, and 357 have no manual safety (yet), while the M&P-45 does. The magazine disconnect safety makes it so that the firearm can not operate when a magazine is not in the gun. My gun does not have this feature, you're gun might. Check the slide right below the ejection port. It will say "Warning: Capable of Firing Without Magazine" if you do not have this feature.

I have talked to people with this feature on their handgun, and they all complain that it makes dry firing harder, but never complain that the magazine doesn't enter the well as easily.

I still have a theory, but can't confirm it without pictures.

Please take good pictures of the magazines, and of your gun (at least 1 picture of the entire gun) if you want to show off some S&W eye candy

Good deal. Btw, are we talking about the Full Size model or Compact Model? Is this happening with all magazines or just 1?

It is the compact model. It happens with both mags. I just got on mp-pistols.com and they said it is perfectly normal. Something about the spring being firm and the first round must be pushed in by the mag when it feeds into the chamber. I will still send pics though if you would like them. Thanks for all the help!!

Ahhh, that threw me off. I was thinking at first that you were sold Sigma magazines, since they are 10-rounders for the .40 S&W, but then I realized that the compact model also holds 10 rounds.

No need to post pictures, unless you'd like to show off your gun It is more than likely a stiff spring. If it doesn't fix itself over time, then you could call S&W and they will make things right.
