Reciprocity question

This is my first post here, but an important one. I am a college student living in Indianapolis, but I am a resident of Illinois. I applied and received an out of state pennsylvania ccw permit. Pennsylvania has a reciprocity agreement with Indiana, but would there be any problems with the permit because I really live in Indiana part of the time. Would they say that I should really apply for an Indiana permit or is there no law against this?

I can't help you with your question. I just wanted to pop in and say hello and welcome to G&G.

I'm sure someone might be able to help you out though. Good luck with it and again, welcome to the site.

Here are two useful links:

Although I might recommend applying for an Indiania CCW, as long as there's reciprocity with your permit you should be fine. Some states only honor permits where you're a resident (i.e. West Virginia won't honor a Florida or Pennsylvania permit unless the owner is a resident of the state in which the permit is issued). While the website states that Indiana will honor a PA permit whether or not the individual is a resident, you might want to check further.

As long as there isn't a residency requirement, as long as your address is current with the issuing authority you should be good to go (i.e. if you're living in PA with a FL permit, you're fine as long as you've updated the address with the FL CCW folks). In most of the states I've lived you have no specific requirement to hold a CCW from that state as long as you have a valid reciprocal CCW state CCW permit. Relize though, if you want to carry in CO or KS (and several other states) you need a CCW permit from your state of residence.

By the way, there are significant differing restrictions on carry state by state so you may wish to contact the office of the AG for Indiana to get a better ruling than from us internet "experts." Also, carry is prohibited in differing places state by state. PA is one of the most "sane" states--only prohibiting carry in court houses and schools (and federal buildings, etc)

I just remembered, you could look into taking the course John Ross offers. His CCW license is good in I think 28 states total, if you get I think it is the Utah CCW? When I get the hell outta Illinois, I'm moving to a state that has CCW and getting the Utah CCW he offers for the others. Check it out.
Concealed Carry Class Information

Again, welcome to the site and good luck with the situation.

Utah's great for reciprocity. So's FL and TX (have PA and FL). If you're former military, the FL license is pretty painless and valid in many states. The PA license is great because it's only $26, valid for 5 years, and the Centre County Sheriff has outstanding customer service (apply in the mail; mine was 3 weeks, mailbox to mailbox).

I add my welcome as well

I just found this link at the NRA's website. Maybe it can help you. Click on the state you're need gun law info on. I also saw a link for a Guide To Interstate Right-To-Carry Reciprocity And Recognition

Hope that will help....

CCW

As of Right now there is no reciprocity, in the State of Iowa for any other states CCW permits, but that is in the process of changing. they are talking about changing from a may issue state to a shall issue state and would give reciprocity to any state that would return the same to Iowa. I was in law Enforcement in CA for 19 yrs before quiting for medical reasons, I moved to Iowa and have had a CCW permit for 10 yrs now, I cannot wait til this changes

Indiana is a very non-restrictive state but you must comply with their laws. Suggest you call the Marion County Sheriff's office or the State AG office with your specific situation. Indiana CCW license is low cost and now a lifetime is available if you plan on sticking around. Indiana accepts all licenses form other states.
Welcome to the forum and welcome to Indy.
