| Coyote DVD's
Just been watching alot of coyote calling dvd's and noticed one big thing. Most of the shots are in the heart/lungs area and the coyotes run off a little bit before falling over. Most shots werent taken until they were at least 50 yards some up to 7 yards away. In Australia, namely when culling kangaroos by permit, it is against the law to aim for anywhere apart from the head to give an instant kill. Now a kangaroo head IMO would be smaller than a coyote head, and they are sometimes shot at 200 yards. They arent a pest like coyotes, but even then shooting foxes, a headshot is much more satisfying. Just wondering why shots arent taken more often at 100 yards or when something is first noticed, and why they arent headshot for immediate death. The guns they used were usually 243's and would be more than capable of head shooting a coyote at 200 yards- Ive done it to foxes at this range with a 22-250. Any reason behind it? In not knocking it as I learnt a heap about calling techniques and they are obvioulsy a pest, but the way we get educated here is to make it a 1 shot instant kill. Cheers |

In my exsperince it is difficult to get a head shot on a Kioti. they dont stand still very long and when they do it behind cover and just for a few secounds so when a shot presents it self i take it as quickly as i can.

Never had the chance to shoot at one, but the ones on the dvd (randy anderson) stopped them plenty long enough for a head shot in my books. Our kangaroos give us probably no more than five seconds in the spotlight at night. Guess its range, line it up and squeeze. If i ever came over to the states and hunted coyotes with a guide i think I would be the worst customer ever. Soon as i saw him stop the first time anywhere out to 200 meters I would ring out a shot... Probably a very easy way to piss the guide off... Still great entertainment and those guys really have their calling techniqe down pat. |
