| Odd markings on Enfield- need help please!
Hi Everyone, I'm new. So I've got this Enfield on layaway at a local store (poor college student) and I noticed it has some every odd markings. In particular- its almost like paint! The gun store dated the manufacturing to Mid 1930s (dated the one my friend bought to 1919- lucky bastard). - the paint looks like 3 strokes at a diagonal, like this= / / /. - the colors are White/Red/White. What does it mean? Was it standard for some squads to paint guns? What do you make of this? I'm new to the historical gun thing, so any help would just be great. thanks a lot in advance! |

personally I know less than squat about enfields, kinda interested in military surplus rifles, but Iwas told by a shop owner that the paint finish was something that they did with spanish enfield's. Whether this is true or not I'm not sure, but that's what I was told.

| Markings sound like DP markings
DP = Drill purpose, not a shooter. There was a company that sold DP No1 MKIII's for parts and the stocks were used on rifles that had sporterized stocks. The 3 stripes were on either side of the receiver on the stock.

| I would have it checked by a
gunsmith. Maybe that just the stock from the DP rifle was used. Is there an DP matkings on the metal as in the bolt ; bolt handle, receiver, mag etc?
