| Definitely Not! The 7.62x39 bullet is actually a larger diameter than the 7.62x51; .311" against .308" and the case head is a slightly smaller diameter but that would probably not make any difference to chambering. You would experience excessive chamber pressures which would be extremely hazardous to your health. So saying, you might actually get away with it a few times!!! just like firing 7.62x51 in a .30-06!! It will go & will fire, But I wouldn't do it!! |

| Senior Member | No both round headspace on the shoulder. using the shorter round in the longer chamber would result in excessive head space and cause the case to rupture this could damage the rifle and you. Using an insert may make the round fit better but you would still need to set your headspace. also because of difference in case head dia. you may have extraction problems as well as lack of case support. |

There's also a pretty big difference in case/rim diameter. Remember these are bottle necked cartridges. The 7.62x39mm's rim diameter is 11.3mm. The 7.62x51mm's rim diameter is 11.94mm. | |

| Not unless you want to see a case failure and what damage results. I have seen what happens to such guns its to be avoided. |
