| Senior Member | 270 WSM Disappointment Well I finally was able to get to the range today and tried my 270 WSM with factory loads. Well it hated them, and it showed me by shooting nothing less that 4 inch groups. I was really disappointed because I wanted to shoot factory ammo for hunting next season. I was using Winchester 130 Gr. Ballistic Silver tips. I feel real confident that it was not me. So I guess it's to the loading bench.

| Senior Member | I assume you checked your scope mounts ? Stock for warpage and so on, it may be a matter of ammo brand, bullet weight/manufacture etc. But dont let me disuade you from reloading, i sure enjoy it . |

| Senior Member | those short mags usually dont shoot well untill you are near or at max i bought a 7 wsm and could shoot it okay but could find nothing but little problems trigger sucked, barell rubbed the channel [both sides, alternately] the oal it liked wouldn't fit in the mag. etc.... just went back to my push feed mod 70! |

| Senior Member | Thanks for the information. I have had the action glassed, barrel free floated, head space checked and corrected, and the barrel lapped. the scope bases and rings are secured. I always thought that the factory stuff was running close to max in the Short Mags. I have a load that I want to try but I was hoping that it would like the taste of the factory stuff. It might settle down after the barrel is a little more seasoned.

| Senior Member | Thanks: I will give them a try. I might try to work up a load first. I don't know why I am so set on using factory loads, they have never worked out for me.

| Grumpy Old Fart ![]() | Reload 5 rounds at 10gr under max, then 3 rds at +2gr intervals. Research the powder/grain combo first. If you don't tighten up, then switch powders. You should find a recipe she likes.

| Senior Member | I don't have a bolt action rifle, yet. lol It is however, on my ever growing "wish list". I'm learning and I learn more and more by reading on this forum and asking questions. This reply is both asking questions to learn and help myself, and at the same time, ask win39 some questions and in the end, maybe we can both learn something and he can get his current problem figured out. So with that said... In watching "sSighting in with Shooting USA a while back, they'd built a tack driver. New barrel, you know. Anyhow, in that episode, John Scoutten said before he could get an accurate grouping, the barrel needed to be broken in. If it's a new rifle, does the same thin apply with new rifles? Where the barrel needs to be broken in? Also, who mounted the scope on, you a dealer, or did it come with them on it? Are the rings aligned properly? Are they grabbing the scope evenly, properly? I've read where if the rings don't grab the scope properly or evenly, it can affect the scope and it's accuracy. So please forgive any ignorance or any dumb question. I in no way am trying to hi-jack win39s post. I'm just trying to learn. I see no sense in starting another thread/post to ask this or any other question/s if it can be answered in an already existing thread. Why take up server space when it can be done here, where I can relate it to what it is that's making me think of or have to ask the question. Thanks much in advance. Win39, have you had any progress?

| Senior Member | Thanks everyone. I will try most of the suggestions when the weather breaks. GlockMeister you can ask questions and make suggestions any time you like. I start a lot of these threads to have a topic to discuss. This is how I get a lot of new suggestions and updated information. I just like talking guns to people that enjoy the same sport I do. There are no dumb questions.
